Young Arsenal loanee Chuba Akpom is making waves at new club Hull City. The Englishman scored in both of his opening two fixtures for the club, drawing praise from both Hull’s Steve Bruce and the big man at Arsenal Arsene Wenger.
A beaming Wenger said he always believed Chuba could make a career at Arsenal, and said he is happy with the player’s performances for the Tigers so far. Akpom says he is enjoying his football at Hull and is staying grounded but admitted playing first team football at Arsenal is still on the forefront of his mind.
A report from Nastytackle.com quotes the youngster as saying this:
“I want to work as hard as I can and contribute to the team. This is my first full season on loan and that is important because it takes times to settle.”
“The boss (Arsene Wenger) said I’d be in his plans for the season but he wants me to play as many games as possible. I’m 19 going on 20 and I need to play games. He’s told me to be confident and show what I can do and he’s really encouraged me.”
He concluded: “I’ve trained with the first team and played games so I’ve had a taster. The main target is to play for the Arsenal first team. But the Premier League is tough and you’ve got to work hard, be patient and wait for your chance.”
The lad’s humility is going to take him places you know. He is making the final hurdle in his development now and it is fantastic to see him getting on so well. He needed this run in the first team of a decent side, and with Hull he is getting just that.
Keep up the good work Chuba! In no time he will be turning up with performances like that for Arsenal!
