It was absolutely great to see the pictures of Sead Kolasinac in training today as the players returned for pre-season.

When the signing of the Bosnian was announced earlier in the summer, I for one was truly excited. A player who had been given rave reviews from Germany last season for Schalke, Kolasinac made the Bundesliga Team of the Season after making 35 appearances and scoring 3 goals.

The club have been in dire need of a left-back over the past few seasons, with Kieren Gibbs and Nacho Monreal – while decent enough players – not possessing the quality to carry the Gunners into Europe and further. Kolasinac looks like he can be that man.

With a reputation for being a bit of a ‘hard man’ in Germany, not in the sense that he likes to go out at the weekend, get on the beers and have a bit of a scrap, but more because of his immense strength and physicality which makes it very hard for attackers to beat him. Fans will adore that about him, as it is something the players at the Emirates have lacked for too long. A bit of tenacity goes a long way.

He stats going forward aren’t too bad either, as he made five assists for his team-mates last season, more than any other Bundesliga defender. Believe it or not, that is as many as Eden Hazard made for Chelsea last season, and no-one would complain if we had signed the magic little Belgian.

Versatile too, the 23-year-old has played as a left-back, a centre back and even a midfielder during his time in Germany.

After today’s pictures emerged, I cannot wait to see him in action.
