Arsenal face a battle to keep key-players within their squad this summer and reports indicate another prized asset could be on the move.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has reportedly told French outlet L’Equipe that talks have been held for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud this summer, according to quotes published by The Independent.

“There has been an approach, at some point, for Giroud. He is a boy that we like, who scores lots of goals and who has a lot of ambition for Russia.”

“He told me personally that he wanted to take his time, that things were not completely defined with Arsenal, that he had a secret hope that he would be the number one striker next season,”

“The key is Arsène Wenger. We are watching. We will try to very quickly sign a top European attacker.”

Arsenal’s quest to upgrade their forward options this summer have seen the Gunners linked with Lyon’s own Alexandre Lacazette and Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe means Giroud is unlikely to get the regular action he craves for the Gunners.

After a bit-part role in the side last season, Giroud is desperate to experience regular action in the forthcoming campaign, ahead of the World Cup in Russia next summer, but rotation could be necessary due to Arsenal’s involvement in the Europa League.
