Whenever a football club reaches a certain level of domestic success, fans begin to dream of miracle runs in European competitions that would end with a cup. Despite dominating certain eras within British football, many long-time supporters could fail to recall how many European trophies Arsenal has won, and that’s for a good reason.

Arsenal has had some epic moments in European competitions, like the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and more. However, the team was one step short of glory in most of them, and we’ve done our research to find out the exact number of European trophies Arsenal have lifted in their history.

How many European trophies do Arsenal have?

Arsenal have won two European trophies in their history at the time of writing. Those trophies are:

  • European Cup Winners’ Cup (1994)
  • Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1970)

Considering how consistently Arsenal have competed at the highest level of European football, the numbers may even surprise dedicated Gooners. That tally could easily have been higher, though. Arsenal lost the Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1980 to Valencia on penalties, and again in 1995 to Real Zaragoza.

Arsenal reached the UEFA Cup final in 2000, only to fall to Galatasaray on penalties, and made history as the first London club to play in a Champions League final in 2006, before losing to Barcelona. The Europa League final in 2019 ended in a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea. In total, Arsenal reached five European competition finals where they ended up on the losing side.

That record of near-misses has done little to dampen enthusiasm around Arsenal in European competition. Their odds have consistently attracted attention, and odds boost tools like Boostfinder regularly feature Arsenal fixtures among their most competitive offers.

Arsenal’s first European trophy came in the 1969-70 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. On their way to the final, Arsenal beat Glentoran, Sporting CP, Rouen, and Dinamo Bacău, before defeating the legendary Ajax in the semi-finals. Arsenal faced Belgian side Anderlecht in the finals and won the cup with a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Arsenal’s second European trophy arrived 24 years later when they won the 1993-94 Cup Winners’ Cup.  Arsenal faced Parma in the final and clinched the win 1-0.

With Arsenal set to appear in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League Final, there is a very real chance that this number could be updated sooner rather than later.
