Former Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has launched an attack on Arsenal fans who are calling for Wenger to be sacked. Hill-Wood is of course the man who appointed Wenger 18 years ago and was keen to offer his supports to the boss, condemning the fans who flew the now infamous banner at the Hawthornes.

Hill-Wood was forthright and staunch in his views, saying last night that these fans were not acting sensibly.

“Thoroughly ignorant people seem to have a say nowadays,” he said.

“It is a few hotheads jumping up and down thinking they are being clever.”

“It is the most ridiculous way to behave really because normal people are forever saying boards act too hastily when they get rid of a manager.

“Here we have a really good one with the team sixth in the league and into the last 16 of the Champions League for the 15th consecutive season. Arsene would be entitled to ask them, ‘what the hell do you want?’

“Frankly, I don’t think the club will be paying any attention to them at all. I don’t take too much notice of it and it isn’t going to influence the board, I am sure of that.”

Scathing remarks from Hill-Wood and goes to show the massive divide on this topic. Wenger’s future has come under intense scrutiny lately, with the boss himself appearing visibly annoyed when questioned about the banner.

Hill-Wood, along with many other Arsenal fans clearly aren’t too thrilled either. It is good to see that the former chairman is still very much loyal to the club. Wenger did say that Arsenal has a tradition of togetherness.
