Thomas Lemar

Why so serieuse?
We're going to have to pay well over his worth if we want to get him imo. Monaco have already sold Silva and are in the process of selling Bakayoko and/or Fabinho. They're rolling in cash and have no need for more money. Similar to the Mbappe deal the offer will have to be over the odds to stand a chance of getting him. 50m should get him.

Piecing together all the stories, the narrative seems to be that we offered £35m for Lemar, got rejected, tested the waters with Mahrez, was told he's over £40m, Wenger probably decided if he has to pay near that much it'd be better off trying again for Lemar, and so we bid again for £40m.
From my top HP, Lemar wants to join us. Might need a double attack here, bid £50m and have Lemar hand in a transfer request.

If they won't sell for £50million then he simply isn't for sale. It's a shame we didn't get him before City got Silva.

Surely we won't bother to bid at all if we don't get indication that he is available close to the sum we bid?

Monaco will of course try to milk us as much as they can, it's up to us to decide if he is worth it.

I can't see us going more than 50 mil. Monaco are obviously open to a transfer close to that amount otherwise they would have just said 80 mil or fvck off. The fact that we are bidding almost half of that seems to suggest their actual valuation is a lot less.

He's obviously keen to come as we wouldn't put in two bids otherwise. Have a feeling it may take a third at the €50 million mark. If Wenger can get Mahrez for a good bit less he might take that option. Not that it's a bad back up to have. Feels weird having a summer where we are getting in quality players.

IKR? Arsenal cutting loose while United/Chelsea flapping about in the market. Almost like a parallel universe.

Said this for a few days now. We will have a few targets and we will want to see what happens elsewhere. Who we go for and how much we spend will also depend on who leaves. If we could have got Lemar cheap enough then go get it done but if it's not then patience is key. 30m, 40m fair enough but north of 60/70m is replacing Alexis territory.

From France: Lemar and Lacazette are big friends, and that could help Arsenal

Arsenal are being insistent over Thomas Lemar. Not overly insistent, not obsessive with their efforts, but they’re hanging around the AS Monaco player and not going away.

Friday’s edition of L’Equipe covers Arsenal’s latest offer. It’s €45m, a rise from €40m so not so dramatic, and Arsène Wenger must have known it was likely to be knocked back.

Perhaps this is a longer game for Wenger, transfer by a thousand cuts, and rather than go in all guns blazing to Casino Square, he’s playing a softer approach.

Wenger is said to be convinced that Lemar could combine well with Lacazette, and L’Equipe say the two men get on very well. At the last gathering of the France squad the pair looked to have a ‘real bond’ and be building a lasting friendship.

As the French newspaper point out, ‘The transfer window has only just begun’ and there’s still plenty of time left for Arsenal to do a deal for the wide player.

Obvious now we only bought Lacazette to lure in Lemar. Wenger getting ruthless in his old age.

That's what I've always wanted Wenger to show. The most frustrating thing about him in the last few years has beeen how he's held back. Where's the fire in him? Where's the anger for all the disappointments and criticisms he's been thrown? Winning a league is one of the hardest things to do in football but I think a lot of the fans at the very least want to see us give ourselves the best possible chance to do it, instead of making compromises.

Great "news".
On a sidenote: do you always have to finish your posts with a sarcastic remark?

I suspect we'll be dragged into a bidding war for Lemar. Monaco look like they're in no hurry to sell and tbh, rightly so if they want to make the most out of their players. Unless we yolo it with a big deal, we probably won't see him come here. Hope I'm wrong though.
