It's mainly Valverde who hasn't shown confidence in him. Certainly Emery at Sevilla and Marcelino at Villarreal had confidence in him. I'd say Enrique did as well. He exercised Denis' buyback clause and played him quite a bit that first year (including a dozen or so La Liga starts). But Valverde doesn't seem to think he's a good fit for his team, just as Emery doesn't think Özil is a good fit.
