Saka, ESR, Martinelli... They are all 20 years or under still. You might well be right about their end product but I wouldn't bet against it yet. Take a look at what some of the league's biggest end product machines were doing at 19/20 years old. Development is non linear and they can explode at 22/23. Challenge for us as a big club is whether we can afford to persist with potentially massive talents before they have peaked.

Definitely need players that can get goals and assists though. I think Martinelli is that player as well

I am talkin about now. Martinelli would improve technically and in his role as the others of 19/20 yo, but he already has high IQ movement without the ball and to make the final ball and he is also very fast, that why you can see him being direct and reaching good goalscoring positions often.
Saka is more suited, imo, to ball progression and ball retention, ESR the same plus link up play etc, Pepe simple lacks the football IQ to be a better and more consistent player imo.

About young 'end product' machines who played as mainly inside forwards or as ST, Mbappe has it, Haaland has it, but someone like Rashford I don't think so, for exemple. Rashford did improved technically (as it is normal) and did improved physically, but his IQ with or without the ball didn't improved as much.

Just looks his npxG and xA didn't improved at all since 2018 and in fact declined this season: Marcus Rashford Stats | FBref.com

He is not reaching better goalscoring positions or creating more, and he makes no work defensively, his job is to score and assists goals only.

Think Buchanan could be cheaper than 10m, no? Like 5m or even less. Derby are up sh*t creek with their finances, we should exploit the fudge outta that.

What's sad is that I'd consider that a very good and successful summer and yet I'd still have no confidence at all of getting top 4. There are no bona fide top class players there, it's hardly anything "exceptional". We've fallen so far.

Yeah I think we gotta just be a bit more patient as a club than we were before. These flashy "look at us we're a big club" signings haven't worked out well. I think we need to bring in modest hard working players (with plenty of room for improvement and points to prove) to raise the current players. I would be okay with 5-6th next season as long as we see a style and shape being formed. If we were to sign as many as I have written there, and we make it to the top 6, then maybe we can focus on quality next summer. At the moment we just don't have enough good players in our team. And those players are good and can make the team play better as a whole.

Rather than attempting the extremely straight upwards movement in the table (which hasn't worked with our recent attempts like Auba, Pepe, Partey), we should go for a diagonal window, slightly sideways slightly up. Improve our bottom line and bolster + support our young talented players rather than hinder them.

Would still be tempted to risk it all for Grealish though ffs

We have to get players who have that additional step forward in them. Pretty much what Liverpool did when they looked like they were heading down a similar path.

(One major issue, obviously, is that we have Arteta and not Klopp, but that's going to be a problem no matter the approach)

Closing the gap to Leicester kind of window. 🤮

Dear Gunnersaurus,

For my wish list, please can you get me -

Grealish (or Buendia)
Caqueret (if Xhaka goes)
Bissouma
Hakimi (or Celik)
Onana (keeping Leno)

I'm also wish-listing game time for Willock and Martinelli, and good loans for Balogun and Azeez.

Yours excitedly,

I'm sold on throwing the kitchen sink at Grealish. Free role, 200k a week, London life, pure coke and escorts on demand and whatever number he wants in the squad.

Goodbye to Willian, Nelson, Laca and Nketiah. Save on the wage bill.

Auba, Pepe, Grealish, Saka, Martinelli, ESR and Balogun as forward options is juicy.
