How does that work? Whether they pay the money in wages or in bonuses, they're still spending it. How does that circumvent FFP?

Apparently bonuses aren't included in the calculations for FFP because it's not guaranteed income for the player. Such a ludicrous loophole which will be ripe for abuse.

Can we still call him a money grabbing bastard now if he takes a pay cut?

"Bonus schemes aren’t factored into UEFA’s Financial Fair Play system, either, as they aren’t guaranteed."

Now this I found very interesting. How do you define a bonus? Must it be a bonus for success?

For instance - if I really wanted to, could I not simply reward my squad for staying in the EPL? Then I could pay them all what seems to be a modest salary, with a bonus of whatever I feel like?

EDIT: I see I am late to the party on this one :eek:ops: still, the point remains.

Even if it's not calculated in, if the bonuses are paid they will still show up in City's financial reports. So even though they could 'pass' FFP through this loophole before the season starts (and the bonuses don't count), they'd surely fall foul of FFP at the end of the season, when the bonuses have been paid?

Ultimately if the bonus is paid out it is money spent and should count towards FFP. It can be calculated in beforehand, of course, but ultimately expenditure is expenditure. I just don't see how it would circumvent FFP.

On this day, in 2002, Arsenal won the title at Old Trafford.

Makes me sad, actually, on a personal level, because thinking back to this games brought back other memories, hits you how time flies and things change.

One of our greatest displays ever almost on par with Anfield 89.

Tbh though, sorry to bring this back up, but I came up with a golden argument and I feel the need to share it. Sorry, again.

The attitude that 'you can never have too many world class players' is the same attitude that led to Real Madrid's three year trophy drought between 2003 and 2006, and is the same attitude of Florentino Perez. Perez destroyed del Bosque's Champions League winning team with his desire for more and more stars, at the expense of getting the kind of signings that are needed. With each manager that came in trying to fit square pegs in round holes, leading to further failure due to not signing what was needed.

Signing Fabregas over, say, Schneiderlin or Bender or even Khedira (a box-to-box midfielder, by trade), would be the equivalent of selling Makelele and signing Beckham and then playing him in defensive midfield, in order to fit him into the team. This proved detrimental to the team and led to the trophy drought. It is for this same reason Fabregas wouldn't have been a worthwhile signing as trying to fit him in would've been a nightmare and would've been detrimental to the balance of the team.

Sorry to bring back an old argument, but Mourino's recent comments and the Khedira or Schneiderlin debate got me thinking about how people seem to want Khedira over Schneiderlin because he's a bigger name, rather than being what's needed, made me think back to this transfer and how people wanted to play Fabregas next to Ramsey, just to fit him in.

Guess tempers must be high there after the terrible world cup. Wouldn't want to be an under performing footballer there right now.
