Wenger tried him there before, it just didn't work , alexis probably wasn't ready for that role at the time. Lots of posters here were complaining everytime Alexis was striker (even earlier this season people were saying the Alexis as striker experiment is a failure and calling Wenger stubborn for sticking with it).
Massive credit to Alexis and Wenger for making it work.. Wenger knows how to develop world class forwards.
