Spending 80m on a keeper when the defense & midfield are dire makes no sense. Just sign a decent young keeper to compete with Cech from day one.

Oblak is a very good keeper but De Gea just on another level. A 80m price tag, our defence & unrealistic expectations would kill him here.

It makes sense if a world class keeper is available. You mention De Gea being better like we have a chance to get him. We need a better keeper then we can build from there. Even if we have to wait another year.

I said this years ago when they replaced Courtois with Oblak. He wasn’t even playing for Benfica, they were loaning him out and developing him. Killer mentality from Atletico, paid straight up 15M, which was a big deal for a goalkeeper.

IMO De gea is an absolute genius of a GK but Oblak is at the exact same level. Only one who is a level above anyone in the game is Neuer.

De Gea has to be considered the best goalkeeper in the world after the obscene amount of points he saved Man United last season and the one before as well. Neuer, Oblak or Courtois never helped their clubs climb the table so much individually, not even during Atletico's league winning season.
