Arsenal target Schalke hotshot Draxler as Wenger prepares to open £70m transfer war chest

Highly-rated Schalke teenager Julian Draxler is on Arsène Wenger's summer transfer list as the Arsenal manager prepares to splurge a £70m transfer kitty.

The German midfielder, who has four caps for his country, has been extensively scouted by Arsenal this season according The Sun, and they will hope to beat a number of big clubs to his signature.

The Bundesliga club are willing to sell Draxler, 19, for around £15m, something Arsenal should be willing to sanction as they splash the cash to end an eight-year trophy drought.

Draxler has 11 goals and five assist for Schalke this season and became the youngest player to make 100 competitive appearances for the club against Borussia Dortmund in March.

Top talent.

Have to be honest here, I've never seen him play other than short highlights, but I've heard quite a few people compare him to Marco Reus.

Perhaps anyone who watches a lot of Bundesliga could tell if that's a fair comparison.

seems like it, but in all honesty do we even need another Attacking mid? we couldnt even accomdate Jack and Santi properly.

League is very weak
He'll play left wing at Arsenal. He's more realistic than others. Don't know too much about him other than he goes past players with ridiculous ease - unless I'm not confused with someone else.

Could be a perfect Arshavin replacement, and would be cheaper than the likes of Isco or Gotze.

I'm not a BL viewer too often and he's slipped under my radar and I know these vids are highlights but he looks amazing for a 19yo

He seems like more of a pacey forward/winger type though and he plays well on the left wing, almost like Gareth Bale with a hell of a shot on him. Santi is a little slow on the left wing and isn't as happy there

He is good and will be amazing. Physically astonishingly mature for his age in terms of speed and balance. Needs to get stronger on battles, though. More realistic target than Götze but then again he's not as finished article either. Not nearly as creative but more of a straight forward wide player

Pace, techincally gifted and power also ready to step up physically as he has grown over the last year alot, at arsenal he would go to the next level.

He will be world class in 2-3 years and can contribute to this squad right now so for me I would be doing everything to try and get this player in.

Outside of marco reus he would be the closest thing to signing robert pires and potentially he will be even better than reus.

now is the time to get him, if not he'll go for £25-30m in 3 years

Exactly - you can tell Wenger regrets not going for Reus, even right after Dortmund signed him, he spoke about how he'll soon be worth far more.

I think with Arshavin 100% leaving and questions about Gervinho, there is room for another wide midfielder in our squad. Draxler would be the perfect understudy to Podolski, while still having the physical and technical quality to contribute right away if needed. Like Oxlade, Draxler is a special talent.

Young, promising talented and in a position where we really could use an upgrade. Team that probably won't be able to turn down a reasonable offer. Reasonable price tag, thus making him a realistic target.

And on top of that, with the continued rhetoric were hearing about Wenger switching his eye over to German football to look for signings, means this probably has some legs.

Makes so much sense, it probably won't happen then.

Huge talent and he has enjoyed a good season in Germany. Technically great and he's quite tall aswell so it will offer something more physical outwide.

The guy's been highly rated for a while, i'm a tad surprised at the £15m estimate. He's really experienced for his age and is playing at a good level. If Wenger rates him he'll sign him at the price i reckon, he forked out near that sum for the Ox.

Whilst he's young he offers the directness we lack outside of Chamberlain and Gervinho (who might be shipped out). I've felt we've lacked in the wide areas at times this season too, whenever Theo's had an off day it's felt like there's something missing from our attacks.

Regarding the estimated £15m price tag - maybe his contract is running out, or his wages aren't very high (both very plausible). Also, Schalke aren't exactly rolling in money.

transfermarket says hes under contract until 2016

id assume that the reason schalke would sell is they need money, and if the player wants to go, he'll go. they are currently 4th which would be a CL playoff, but there are 4 teams within 2 points of them with 4 games left. they could be out of europe all together

but Holding’s hair transplant was painless
Would be slightly underwhelming despite his talent. Good squad signing but doesn't improve our starting 11.

Are Schalke in need of money if they miss out of the CL? He's young and very talented on a long term contract selling him would be the stupidest thing in the world

Arsenal Quotes

In 1997/98 we became English champions as I had set myself three missions to carry out which I felt were essential. One: to have an impact on the result and the team's playing style. Two: to foster the player's individual development. Three: to strengthen the structure of the club and enhance its global influence.
