Are we still on the ''he needs to speak English'' bandwagon?

Of course he does. If not we are replacing what one of the big problems was with the same problem.

How can the fans get on side when they dont even know what hes saying and likewise the players.

A decade ago they would be queing up for the job now we are scraping around basement bargains.

That's because we are living in the now. Many fans on here are living in early 2000. Were we were challengers because basically there was so little competition.

The minute in became a 4 or 5 horse race we buckled. Blame the stadium, blame luck, blame rich owners. Either way we didnt get competitive.

If in any other league in the world a team that hasnt won a league in 15 years and only a couple of fa cups to show for it isn't considered a huge team.

Ac Milan were a huge team. Today no. Up until last year Liverpool were a huge team. Not are. United have still won recently enough to hold onto that tag but if in 5 years united haven't won a league or a champions league they will go down the route of being a "was a good team".

Everything in football is present. And at present Arsenal is nowhere in the top 10 teams in Europe.

Not sure how much of the problem was due to his English tbh.

When a bunch of players are underperforming, with some of them single handedly costing us points with ridiculous individual errors, it's normal to close ranks and act like the problem isn't theirs and their team mates doing. Do we really think getting instructions across was a big problem in 2019? I mean, think about it...

It's not just instructions in authority. Showing a command of the native language shows authority also telling your message direct not through another person.

Also he was openly mocked on every social media platform and amongst the players. Which is disgusting given half the players in the premier league dont have a brilliant level of English.

In his interviews he waffled a lot.

You dont replace something that didnt work with the same characteristics that didnt work from the off.

Otherwise we become another joke. Arsenal sack manager who cant speak English to replace him with another who cant speak English and nobody knows what hes saying. Decisions like this make us look stupid as a club.

Why not? You can use a translator but like Neville said, something that should take 20 seconds takes over a minute with a translator, just not practical in a dressing room/training ground environment.

The players looked clueless enough for me to think there was an issue in the information they were receiving. Never seen more clueless Arsenal teams.

It's about being able to interact socially too - apparently Emery was too aloof, and didn't engage with the players on a personal level at all

Also managers bring in their own teams, so you can have training sessions when the language barrier is across the board

I think he'd mastered enough of the language to get instructions across. Bits that he hadn't could have been made clear in seconds. He wasn't trying to give lectures on astro physics. His english lessons will have been focused on football talk. Nah, I'm not having the 'couldn't communicate' thing.

**** Neville tbh. Football people are all the same on TV. They're sheep and love nothing more than a xenophobic narrative. Neville is a weasel.

How can you interact personally with your team when you aren't comfortable with the language. I dont know about anyone here but having worked in Spain with limited Spanish similar to Emerys grasp in English when you go out with Spanish speakers you are always on the outskirts of the conversation.

You dont get the jokes or the expressions the same. Also when you want to say something it takes forever and your going back and forth in your mind which makes things slow and complicated.

Lots of managers don't communicate on a personal level with players. It's a style some favour. You can't put that down to him not mastering the English language.

To be fair to Neville, he wasn’t talking about Emery or any other manager, just his own experience in Spain. I linked the his languages issues to Emery.

Most of the guys we’re linked with are English speakers anyway.

If it is someone with no English, might as well hire them on in the summer.

Tell them to spend the next 6 months smashing the English. If you can spend two hours a day on it your ability will sky rocket.

Better to use a translator that talk absolute ****.

If its a quality manager on a long term deal who cares if they dont speak English for a year. Would much prefer a respected authoritarian type to drill some order into this bunch of weak minded wasters.

Arsenal Quotes

The biggest things in life have been achieved by people who, at the start, we would have judged crazy. And yet if they had not had these crazy ideas the world would have been more stupid.
