I think he might be a target for Blackburn or Bolton, some club of that size. He won't come here with all our options up front.
surely Bordeaux are better than Bolton or Blackburn.. i mean, they just won Ligue 1 and will be playing in the CL next season, why would he want to wallow in mediocrity at Bolton or Blackburn?

Man City were nobody this time 12 months ago.

The pockets became deeper then all, and now players like Robinho have signed for them.

Money rules football nowdays, its just the way it is. Money doesn't equal success, but it has a major part to play in the direction of the club.

But Bolton don't have that type of money. Man City's billions suggest the possibility of future success. Bolton may just have a tad more cash than Bordeaux, but there's no way that they're ever going to be successful in England because other clubs are better or richer. It's a poor example.

Re: Chamakh

Bolton vs Man City wasn't the comparison.

The comparison was the money involved when compairing a footballers income to that of a French side, and that of a Premiership side.

But the point is that most Premiership sides - like Bolton and Blackburn - aren't wealthy enough and don't have a promising enough future to encourage one to leave a side destined for the Champions League next season. A player for a midtable French side? Sure.

Re: Chamakh

President of Bordeaux wants him to stay:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/06/01/PremLigue-1-Chamakh-on-future/gnid-55247/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Foot ... nid-55247/</a>

“We are going to try and convince him to stay. I know he would impose himself there [in England] but the grass is not always greener elsewhere.

“He had a short night, celebrating the title, and maybe he said that in the heat of the moment.”

Re: Chamakh

Has apparently changed his mind and now want to leave Bordeaux and the Premier League is what he prefers.

Clearly, Chamakh wants to reach England, where Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham and Everton to make his eyes soft.

Re: Chamakh

Phillipe Auclair from France Football (who is also an Arsenal fan) told Talksport earlier a £9-11 million deal to sign this guy is "very nearly done" apparently.

Re: Chamakh

That would a stunner if it happens and would almost certainly mean someone going the other way.

He would also be another player subject to the ACN and whatever the new one is called.

Re: Chamakh

Definitely not Arsenal quality, top of my anti-wish list.

We have Vela, give him a chance rather than signing another bad finisher.

Re: Chamakh

Auclair is one of France's most respected journalists, working for France Football who have a reputation for getting some big deals right.

I guess he is quite like Marcotti, but not as high profile. He has been an Arsenal fan for years and watches all our games, he was even on Arsenal TV and Arseblog's podcast recently.

I have never seen this striker play, but Auclair thinks he will be great for us and seems to be happy the deal is getting done (if he is right of course).

Re: Chamakh

Did the french journalist say that Chamakh is close to signing a deal with Arsenal or just that he's close to agreeing a deal with an english club?

Arsenal Quotes

In June 1996, David Dein, Peter Hill-Wood and Danny Fiszman came out to Nagoya to meet me on behalf of Arsenal. Within an hour we came to an agreement. The Japanese directors didn't try to keep hold of me in the usual way but talked with persuasive arguments... But as far as I was concerned, the decision was taken. Arsenal. A decision that would change my life.
