Our System Papers Over The Cracks

Doesn't the term "key player" means the player is of high important and can't be lost?

formation without suitable player doesn't mean much

We gave away one clear cut one on one with our goalkeeper yet again, it's simply not the way to play football and win a league.

The team did quite well in some areas, but it's still far too easy for our opponents to get chances if they play a certain way.

We got away with it because it was Jones, had it been Drogba or Rooney it probably wouldn't have gone the same way.

High importance & can't be lost don't mean the same thing - the former can describe a world class player, the latter describes a lack of depth/cover.

Any formation or style of play that relys upon any world class player or 2 in order to succeed is flawed, moreso when that player has not yet managed a full season.

If you are talking about RvP, then I need an info on how this formation 4-5-1 is any difference from 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 we used to use

Not going to get into this very much since I have stated how I feel about our formation elsewhere.

Just one thing: What I find a complete mystery about our possession-football is that at the end of games that we are winning we often seem to lose the ability to string 3 passes together. When we would need it the most to kill off the game. This was last witnessed vs Pool, and has been demonstrated on many occasions.

Just keep the ball! Knock it around without going anywhere! (Which we spend a fair amount of time in any game doing anyway). But no! Give it to the opposition. Let them play all the long balls they want into our box!

And I always end up on the brink of a heart-attack.

Our possession football is a bit of a myth tbh. We don't keep the ball very well at all for various reasons in general play and often lose it due to poor execution in the offensive third of the pitch

In the end of the day we were playing with a 2nd string attack
Im sure it would have been alot different if it was RvP, AA and TR/Edu upfront..

Probably, but that in it's self indicates that AW is reliant upon key players to make his system work, and that despite the numbers we do not have options in those areas.

What team isnt?
How would United do without Rooney/Berb/Giggs Or Chelsea without Drogba/ Anelka/Malouda?
The team is bound to suffer goal wise, Liverpool have become toothless without Torres... Big players will always make a difference in the team, sure we can say that AW didnt bring in enough players but I don't see how the system is the main failure in all this. we have scored as much as Chelsea and United with all our injuries upfront... Agree about the options though, some players time is/should be running out as they have failed to step up.
