a myth that surrounds freddie is that he cant beat his man. well, to be honest i dont think he's any worse than reyes at that.

gilberto won a few balls yesterday too in midfield. forgetting his goal, he put in a very decent performance.

Starting XI:

Lehmann 5 - Did OK except one mistake led to a goal concede

Eboue 7 - Had brave presence throughout the right flank. Did good running and shooting in the final third, but lacked of intelligence with passing.

Kolo 7 - Solid as usual.

DJourou 6 - Composed very atheletic except some awkward ball handling decisions in the box (chest the loose ball then clear it??).

Hoyte 5 - Credit to his attemp of truing to be invloved in the build up on the left. Defense-wise got caught a few times as he lost track on both the ball and off-ball running attackers. Justin needs to improve his defensive aspect quickly. Villa probed Hoyte and caused a few scares. Now opponents know that our LB is very inexperienced.

Freddie 7 - tried very hard to run at defenders or markers. Did well in build-up and mamanged some through balls to overlapping Hoyte.

Cesc 6 - Did well but his passing seemed slow the game a bit.

Gilberto 8 - what can I say? a vice-captain.

Hleb 6 - Gave away the ball a few times. He had a share to be blamed for the team playing too narrow.

Henry 5 - not sharp at all. Occasioanlly held the ball few seconds too much and slow the game.

Ade 6 - with the chances he had, he should had scored. Also some bad first touches.

Subs:

RVP 6 - did well but some bad first touches. Should not have taken the FK by blasting the ball by power. Kolo is better than Robin in this aspect.

Flamini 6 - Can't well due to late substite. For me, he should start ahead of Hoyte.

Walcott 8 - pacey and good control on the ball. Should have run down the flank upon receiving the ball and losed his marker. His seemly raw decision allowed time for Villa to double up on him.

This may be off-topic but I give 3 to those MOTD pundits. Especially Shearer. WTF was he doing there? Just circled all the villa players behind the ball and said this was well-organised defense? Even my nephew can do better and be more creative than him!!! I can't help moaning for my Tv license fee....

Eboue 8- had a great game
Kolo 7- Solid as usual
Djourou 7- likewise as toure
Hoyte 6- at first he didn't look okay but later he was playing ok, he needs to boost his confidence
Ljungberg 8- had a great game he runs all over the field
Cesc 7- he looks very composed and distribute the ball well
Gilberto 7-had a good game
Hleb 6- at first he was poor but he was good at the last 30 mins
Henry 6- lacked match fitness
Adebayor 7- he had a good game infact he could have scored 1 or 2
Flamini-6
Walcott 8- had a promising debut, he didn't lose the ball and he gave an assist, he has a great feature ahead

i don't like the normal 1-10 scale, there's no middle ground...so, calling 0 an average match, with positives for better and negatives for worse than average, overall range of +/-3:

jens: +1, he played the goal badly but did fine with everything else.
eboue: +2, great forward runs, good defense, killing shots, and only being a flopping pansy keeps him from a +3
kolo: +1, had a great diagonal run, kept everything tight in the middle of defense
djourou: +1, showed great pace, not the greatest positioning, great sliding tackle on angel (?)
hoyte: -1, below average game, looked lost coming forward, kept letting passes get behind him, making up only with his pace...better strikers would have burned him.
freddie: +1, thought he was our most effective bulldog on the ball, nice runs to the endline.
cesc: +2, boy, is he good. i saw only two bad decisions on passes, and if titi doesn't let that pass hit him on the head, it would have made goals of the year.
gilberto: +1, good game from him, great goal, some bad passes but supported both ends of the team well.
hleb: 0, was sparkly in the first half, disappeared in the second, made some great runs with eboue but also stalled out alot, gumming things up.
henry: 0, looked unfit, poor first touch, couldn't get his rifle loaded...anyone else might get a +1, but henry is too damn good to play like that. when's the last time cesc hits him in the head on a long pass?
ade: +2, top game, well-positioned villa defnese keeps him from having a brace.
rvp: -1, didn't see him do much except lose the ball, i expect much better.
flamini: 0, did what he was supposed to do, glad to see him replace hoyte.
theo: +2, very composed on the ball, loved the steal and run, loved the crosses, wish he'd shot at least once...promising lad.

mom, tie between ade and eboue.

lol...it would be middle ground if people used it, but everyone seems to be in the 6-10 range, no matter what...

Eboue: 8
Toure: 7
Djourou: 7
Hoyte: 4 shocking
Hleb: 6 clearly needs to play at CM
Fabregas: 6 steady
Gilberto: 7 what he doing scoring? should be entrenched in front of defence
Ljungberg: 4 dunno what he adds to the team. reminds of beckham but without his dead ball skills.
Henry: 5 not fit
Adeabayor: 6

I don't agree with these ratings:

Hleb: As a winger he provided 2 assists against Zagreb, and has adapted to that position and created a formidable relationship with Eboue. Hence Eboue's abilities to run forward and expect a pass, which is most of the time provided by Hleb. It's pretty similar to Pires-Cole partnership from a few years ago really. Also, would you rather play him instead of Fabregas?

Ljunberg: He's got an injury, and even injured he was able to take on his man several times and end the monotonous passing football we started playing at some stages. Thanks to him we got 8 corners, which is a lot for a single player to provide.

Gilberto: Defend? defend against who? all of the Villa players were in their box, and the beauty of Arsenal is that every single one of our players attack and score from time to time. remember Cygan's brace? Also, Gilerto was doing something we had been lacking for a while, which was to be able to get into the box and hunt this kind of balls. After Ade came out it seemed we weren't going to score from a goal that wasn't planned, but Gilberto was brave enough to get in there, and it payed.

Freddie wasn't even fit so you can hardly judge him on one game. He is a top player and provides penetration into the box and makes some great runs, and he was one of our more creative players in the game before he was substituted.

wtf? this ratings are just pure shocking. to say that djourou had a bad game is just a pure noob rating. i have to say Reyes no.11 point of view is atrocius.

Anyone who criticises a defensive player for popping up and saving us from a defeat, not to mention a huge morale dent and the collapse of this forum, is an idiot IMO. :)
