1-10

lehmann - 7,5 MOM
-solid, couldn't do anything about the goal and had several nice saves. classy as usual.

lauren - 5
-decent. a bit sloppy from time to time, but defended well throughout the match.

toure - 6
-another good performance from kolo. solid defending and isn't afraid to run with the ball.

campbell - 4,5
-looked shaky from the beginning and he was the one supposed to mark king. solid 2nd half...

clichy - 7,5
-after a few medicre performances, clichy looks like the player we remember from last season. excellent defending and very good going forward. extremely quick and good on the ball.

ljungberg - 6
-great effort and made several good runs. unfortunately, the passing from i.e. bergkamp and others wasn't good enough...

gilberto - 4,5
-terrible first half. looked lost and his passing was poor. improved a long with the rest of the team in the 2nd half.

flamini - 4,5
-a good start, but then he was booked after just 12 mins and that obviosly influenced him. tried to get stuck in, but ended up running around like a headless chicken.

cesc - 4
-completely out of it as a right wing. as gilberto, better in the 2nd half.

bergkamp -2,5
-an awful, awful 1st half. a little bit better in the 2nd half, but dennis is not a forward. ineffective, slow and his passing was unusually poor.

reyes - 2,5
-gave the ball away too many times. lacked concetration and just down right sloppy. the injury might have something to with that...

pires - 7
-without a doubt his best performance this year. quick, good on the ball, creative and very good passing. a great goal to. now, let's just hope he can keep this up...

van persie - 7,5
-turned, together with pires, the game around. mobile, agile, tough, quick, creative etc etc. caused the Sp**s defense more problems in his first 5 mins than reyes and bergkamp did in the 1st half combined.

Jens 7 - Solid throughout, good save from Defoe.
Lauren 7 - His usual self, couldn't get involved much attacking wise but worked hard.
Kolo 6 - Would have given him a 7 but cought ball-watching which led to the goal.
Sol 5,5 - A 4 for his first half performance and a 7 for the second, that makes 5,5  Really let the Sp*ds get to him in the first half.
Clichy 8 - Good defending, pacy attacking. Very good performance.
Cesc 6 - Is NOT a right winger. Much better in the second half.
Flamini 5 - A bit rash in the tackle, wasn't his best.
Gilberto 4 - Probably the worst match I've seen from him so far. Where were those passes going?
Freddie 7 - Looked lively and dangerous when on, should have curled that ball with his right foot.
Pires 8 - Suprisingly excellent. Good running, good passing, beat players and even scored. Pires vs. Sp**s is always good.
Reyes 5,5 - Some good runs but also a lot of sloppy passing and losing possesion in midfield. Not that he had any support in the first half.
Dennis 5,5 - A few good passes but generally ineffective.
RvP 8 - A touch of class. What a player when he is on form. Made King look like a big ape.

Toure was marking Mido and Sol was marking King, then Mido ran over to Sol, Toure stood still, some **** blocked Sol's path and King headed the ball in. If that makes any sense

The radio said Flamini was "marking" King for the Spuds goal. Not seen it yet myself though.

well, they were wrong. really, flamini marking king...!?

flamini was standing right next to toure, mido, king and campbell, but it was campbell who was supposed to mark king...

no, you're wrong. campbell was supposed to mark king. not only does it make sense logically, he was the one standing closest to king as well.

this is what happened:
as the cross came flying in, king moved towards the ball, while campbell moved away from the ball. that way, king was all alone and could head the ball in the net. toure was marking mido, campbell was marking king and flamini was there i guess to just defend space.

Flamini was marking King
If you watch the set you see Flamini with King Campbell with Mido and i think dawson with toure not sure
but as the corner was flighted in Flamini was ball watching and didnt track Kings run

So that's TWO Campbell mistakes already this season, better send for Swiss Tony....

Van Persie deserves 8 - The only forward Arsenal had on the day, and had another shot that if it wasn't for a block, would have gone in.

Pires deserves 7.5.. showed the fight that Bergkamp showed after coming on against FC Thun. Not Pires at his best, but worthy of much note and saved the game.

Reyes - 3 - All over the place, a few touches but everything else was off key and off target, couldn't mark up two passes. And was one of the main reason's why Arsenal couldn't string anything in the final third.

Lehmann 8 - Done all he could, in a poor defensive performance.

Clichy 8 - Even in the first half when Arsenal's defence were floundering, Clichy was recovering and in the second half was the best left sided player in the Arsenal team, epotimised by Wenger's decision to put cygan in left back and clichy in left midfield. Altho It was a forced decision because Reyes was so poor.

Campbell 4.5 - Obviously affected by the crowd, was syked out for at least 75mins of the match, made a few good edge interceptions, but was far from impressive and perhaps shows that his time is drawing near.

Toure 7 - The only actual center back that was fighting. Done all that one person can do, and he tried as best as he could.

Lauren 5 - Done his fighting in his own half, but never got forward, despite the missync with Freddie, never imposed himself on the game, and never in his own position.

Ljungberg 7 - Was the only truly bright attacking player, until injury. We will never know.

Gilberto 4.5 - On edge and couldn't handle his own role, let alone the new Vieira role.. got booked early and could never do anything after.

Flamini 5 - Average performance by an average player.

Fabregas 7 - Done his job and tried to do his duty, despite being played out of his posiiton. Once restored done much better.

Bergkamp 4 - The mind and body wasn't in sync.. the mind of a great player, affected by the body of an old player. Not the lasting prowess of Alan Shearer or Teddy Sheringham. Effort, but no elogance. A very random performance.

Those are decent ratings Kha0z, I thought Lauren did more than the 5 you gave him (especially in attack in the second half) but you got it right for the rest of them.

Bergkamp 4 - The mind and body wasn't in sync.. the mind of a great player, affected by the body of an old player. Not the lasting prowess of Alan Shearer or Teddy Sheringham. Effort, but no elogance. A very random performance.

That pretty much sums up Bergkamp these days.

I couldn't give Lauren anymore then 5. Not that he done anything wrong in his own half, but outside of that, he never was able to go forward to either help hold up the ball or put a cross or final third pass.

It's a respectable 5. He didn't do too badly. But he wasn't exactly shining either.

To be fair Shearer has been absolutely naff this season. Difference between Bergkamp and Shearer is that if Shearer isn't scoring.. he really isn't doing anything else. Bergkamp has more to his game.

Plus Shearer is a year younger than Bergkamp, the Bergkamp of last season was much better than the Shearer we're seeing so far this season.

For me Lauren's first half display was similar to his display in the FA Cup final, all over the place! He got skinned by anyone that ran down the left wing and it was worrying. Picked up in the second half though.

****!!

Fabregas 6
nothing to say.
Bergkamp 6
Slowwwwwwwww .

To be fair, Shearer has got pisspoor service to him as a lone striker for most of his games, Owen coming in lasted for one game. He's been expected to hold the line and provide for at least 3-4 seasons now.

Bergkamp has the luxury of being the recpient of pass after pass.
And good passes at that. I know for a fact, that shearer would have scored at least 3 more goals then Bergkamp. Shearer is still a ball winner, Still an actual goal threat. Bergkamp is a very aged gamemaker.
Still in the side, becuase Wenger believes that sooner or later Bergkamp will put in some kind of performance that justifies giving him a one year contract.

Shearer's role and Bergkamp's is very different. The only thing is that both have been played into striking slots. And One has scored more then the other. One has won more games by individual play, then the other. And one seems much more likely to put the ball in the back of the net. And that's shearer. I respect and rate Bergkamp very highly. He has been an exceptional player for Arsenal. But the sympathy must end here and now.

In the cold light of day. If Bergkamp was in another team, he would have been dropped, he probably wouldn't have got another year's contract. And he certainly wouldn't be auto-pick for a first team place, especially in a striking role.

After Van Persie's performance in the carling cup, Wenger again said that the competition for places is tough, and yet Van Persie is still the only striker outside of Henry that is a genuine goal threat. Ok it was Pires who scored, But RVP had a definate goal blocked. Bergkamp, did he have a shot on target? Reyes, did he have a shot period? It's unfair on a striker in form, to be treated the way RVP is, and I'll keep telling it like it is, as long as the situation remains as shambolic as it is.

Teddy and Shearer, have so much less to work with then Bergkamp, and have contributed more thusfar.

Just because of his service to the club, you can't disallow the fact that his actual output for the club this season has been pretty worthless.
With the exception of the FC Thun game winning subtitute performance, he has done precious little to warrant a place over anyone, even the youngsters.
