Everybody had seen how poor our defence was under Emery and yet the club blew huge sums on one forward whose hardly played, got a loan player to replace Ramsey, an ageing Chelsea reject to add to a long list of rash CBs, a young CB who couldn't come for another year, an injury prone left back and a young Brazillian to compete with Nelson and Saka, for some reason.

We need investment in the defence. Mustafi is the only £30m player we’ve bought. The club are quite happy to spend massive money elsewhere yet we continue to neglect a position we’ve suffered in for over a decade.

That's where the real core of the problem has been for years. Wenger continually ignoring defense, central midfield amd GK for years and years while its those areas of the pitch that needed building from. You never see top managers and clubs compromising in those areas no matter what happens. The depressing thing is we wouldn't even have needed heavy investment to sort those areas for good.
Its just years an years of arrogance and negligence adding up to this current situation.
