It's just about the biggest rubbish ever.

A Boca Juniors blog mentioned that Palacio could be on his way to Arsenal. People started discussing that. The Sun decided to put an unreliable article saying that 'Reports in Argentina suggest that...', and NOW, Argentinian sources are saying The Sun says etc. etc. etc.

B.S.

Lies.

So that's that then, a load of bollocks reported from a blog by the sun.

Yet again, that "newspaper" excels in bullshit reporting.

I liked this part..

According to the expressed thing by Depietri, ex- player of Mount Olympus and Gimnasia, "already would be closed" on the part of Mouth the purchase of the totality of happens of Palace. It is that Banfield and Huraca'n of Three Streams, where played the forward before arriving at Mouth, conserved a percentage on the economic rights.

Something out of Dante's Inferno.

Haha, exactly!

This is hilarious. Wonder what they're thinking at The Sun.

 at the babelfish translations! They translate "Boca" into "Mouth"

OK guys, I went into a Boca forum to see what was going on over there... These are some posts I found interesting:

SEGUN LO Q ESCUCHE EN EL NOTICIERO,PALACIO SERIA VENDIDO AL ARSENAL DE INGLATERRA EN 30 MILLONES DE DOLARES!!!!!!!!!!!!

EN INGLATERRA YA DAN POR HECHO EL PASE, POR UN LADO UNA CAGADA PORKE VAMOS A JUGAR EL MUNDIAL DE CLUBES CONTRA EL MILAN CON UN EKIPO DESARMADISIMO

POR OTRO LADO CON 30 MILLONES PODESMOS COMPRAR A 3 RIQUELMES , Q CON ESA GUITA COMPREN A ROMAN Q SALE 15 MILLONES O SEA LA MITAD

Translation:
According to what I heard on TV, Palacio has been sold to Arsenal for 30 million dollars!

In England they believe it's a done deal, which sucks, since we (Boca) will go to the Club's World Championship with a very unsettled team.

On the other hand, with 30 million dollars we could buy 3 Riquelmes, so with that money we could buy Roman permanently.

Therefore it makes sense Boca are selling him, as they seem to be in need of money, and would definitely want to keep or replace Riquelme properly.

Ya lo vendieron, escuche en canal 9...

Translation:
He's been sold already, I heard it in channel 9

see :S se fuee .. aca esta el link http://www.clarin.com/diario/2007/07/16 ... 458337.htm

Translation:
Yeh, he's gone, here's the link http://www.clarin.com/diario/2007/07/16 ... 458337.htm

If you look at the link provided in the last post, you'll see the Argentinian news papers are merely quoting the Sun! So, maybe there's nothing into this rumour after all. Both sets of fans could be victims of the power blogs enjoy nowadays.

Hope that helps put things into context a bit.

Its a smokescreen because we want to buy that guy Baptista from Real Madrid, but hes so good other clubs might come in and steal him.....

The weird thing though is if some TV channels are reporting that Palacio have been sold. I actually think TV journalists should be better than to report something that originates from a blog.

Apparently this rumour is denied by sources IN Argentina.

Someone who can translate it?

I'll gladly give it a try ;)

Here is what it says:

Businessman Roberto Depietri stated that "there are no bases" for the news that were reported in England, about a possible transfer of Rodrigo Palacio to Arsenal.

"I am as surprised as anyone. There has not been any official or extra-official contact."

The news originated in London, and were published by the tabloid The Sun. It generated surprise among the staff at Boca Juniors.

However, Depietri- the forward's agent, said that the rumour that Arsenal would pay 30 million dollars had "no bases".

The English newspaper even stated that the Argentinian forward would travel to London to have a medical. Furthermore, The Sun suggested that the striker would be wearing the number 14 shirt, which was left vacant after Thierry Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona.

According to Depietri, the Boca's attempt to buy the player's rights completely "is done". Since Banfield and Huracán de Tres Ríos used to hold a percentage of Palacio's rights.

... then it goes on to say that if the transfer were to happen it would be the most that's ever been paid for an Argentinian player who is still playing in his homeland.

Hopefully that settles it. He's not coming.

Any journo from the Mirror or the other tabs should pick this up and expose the Sun and the Standard as laughing stocks. Their big exclusive of the day was a simple hoax by a blogger.

Having said that, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. They're all as guilty as each other of printing utter bollocks to shift a few units.

Arsenal Quotes

It’s not impossible to go through a season unbeaten and I can’t see why it’s shocking to say that.
