A Boca Juniors blog mentioned that Palacio could be on his way to Arsenal. People started discussing that. The Sun decided to put an unreliable article saying that 'Reports in Argentina suggest that...', and NOW, Argentinian sources are saying The Sun says etc. etc. etc.

If you look at the link provided in the last post, you'll see the Argentinian news papers are merely quoting the Sun! So, maybe there's nothing into this rumour after all. Both sets of fans could be victims of the power blogs enjoy nowadays.

El empresario Roberto Depietri aseguró hoy que "no tiene ningún asidero" la versión surgida en Inglaterra en torno a una posible transferencia del delantero de Boca Rodrigo Palacio al Arsenal.

"Estoy tan sorprendido como cualquiera, no hubo contactos oficiales ni extraoficiales", señaló Depietri.

La novedad surgió en Londres y fue difundida por el tabloide The Sun, lo que generó sorpresa en las filas boquenses.

Sin embargo, Depietri -representante del atacante bahiense- aseveró que "no tiene ningún asidero" la versión que indicaba que el club inglés iba a pagar unos 22 millones de euros (30 millones de dólares) por Palacio.

El periódico inglés se hizo eco de algunas versiones e incluso afirmó que el futbolista iba a viajar a Londres para someterse al reconocimiento médico de rigor.

Además, The Sun indicó que el argentino podía utilizar la camiseta número 14, que dejó vacante el francés Thierry Henry, recientemente transferido a Barcelona de España.

Según lo expresado por Depietri, ex jugador de Olimpo y Gimnasia, "ya estaría cerrada" por parte de Boca la compra de la totalidad del pase de Palacio.

Es que Banfield y Huracán de Tres Arroyos, donde jugó el delantero antes de llegar a Boca, conservaban un porcentaje sobre los derechos económicos.

Hasta el momento, el traspaso por el que más dinero se pagó desde un club extranjero por un jugador argentino fue el de Sergio Agüero, quien el año pasado fue transferido a Atlético de Madrid en 29 millones de dólares.

Le sigue de cerca el de Fernando Gago, ex jugador de Boca, por quien Real Madrid desembolsó 28 millones de la moneda norteamericana.

According to Depietri, the Boca's attempt to buy the player's rights completely "is done". Since Banfield and Huracán de Tres Ríos used to hold a percentage of Palacio's rights.

... then it goes on to say that if the transfer were to happen it would be the most that's ever been paid for an Argentinian player who is still playing in his homeland.

Hopefully that settles it. He's not coming.
