Serge Aurier

weak link, but its january, what do you expect?

ARSENAL boss Arsène Wenger is ready to snap up Toulouse full-back Serge Aurier to replace the unsettled Bacary Sagna.

The Gunners manager sees 20-year-old Aurier, an Ivory Coast international who also has French citizenship, as the solution to the contract impasse with Sagna.

Arsenal have refused to improve their offer of a one-year extension to Sagna’s contract at £60,000 a week.

Sagna’s current deal has 18 months to run, and Arsenal are not prepared to offer improved terms to a player who has had injury problems and turns 30 in a month.

Sagna has indicated he will be looking to leave in the summer, so Wenger has looked to France – his favoured recruitment area – to plan for the future. Talks are advanced with French First Division club Toulouse over Aurier, who is valued at around £5million.

Wenger is also interested in signing striker Loic Remy but only if Marseille reduce their £10m asking price.
Newcastle United and QPR are also chasing the France star.

Signing a RB during January seriously should be the absolute least of our concerns. This transfer may matter in the summer if we have serious issues with Sagna re-signing, but why bother with this now when we already have an able backup in Jenkinson.

Sounds interesting, just going by this - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.itsroundanditswhite.co.uk/2012/11/20/one-for-the-future-serge-aurier/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.itsroundanditswhite.co.uk/20 ... ge-aurier/</a>

He can play LB, thats a position we need to strengthen, can play RB too and at DM. Sagna was slated on here when it emerged we are signing him, just saying, this guy could be a gem,

These are the exciting links for me, and young players - Wenger is boss on such transfers.

Young, relatively cheap, from the French league? Yep, this has legs for me.

I've not seen anything of him, but if he's anything like a young Sagna get him in.

But this link does make me feel like Sagna will be off in the summer, gutted, every end of an era is the beginning of a new one.

TGG gettin' philosophical.

He's good on football manager. Used him at RB in backk to back Champions league campaigns at Arsenal...

Wouldn't mind another RB, Sagna hasn't been exactly superb this season. And if he can play as a LB as well is a huge bonus.

Not the position we need to strenghten first, but better than nothing.

He's a young Sagna, if Wenger doesn't find common ground with Sagna soon I think he will sell Sagna and go for Aurier
Not a bad deal, we will two very very good RBs

Aurier is top top quality offers alot more going forward then any of our RBs and is probably most similar to gibbs, can score as well seen a top goals of his fizzing into the top corner.

£5mil would be another qulaity deal just make it a double with Capoue as well.

Which one is it lads?

I've personally never seen him play (that I know of...) so am looking for some reliable info on the guy.

Looks to me like he's just chilling in Arsenal top :lol

But I guess it means he'd probably be keen if we made a move, I'd like to see him here, but at the same time, if he comes that means Bac goes :(

It doesn't have to be that way. Like Mark, I too have never seen him play, but if he's good going forward sign him up but not at the expense of Sagna. We could easily sign this kid (or another good attacking RB) and simply shift Sagna to part time RB and part time CB and we dont need to try and bring in another CB.

A solid defense is all about consistency and keeping Sagna around is important in that.

I'd like to balance Sagna on his was to playing less at RB as and when he is unable to perform at the highest level week in week out while giving more game time to a couple of lads like carl and serge who could develop into a really well balanced RB duo.
