Myles' latest piece.

Charlie Sale said:
Hapless headhunters Spencer Stuart have also tried to lure Post Office boss Adam Crozier, the former FA chief executive, to the Emirates Stadium without success in their second campaign to fill the prestigious post.
Their first recruitment attempt ended with Peter Lawwell preferring to stay at Celtic while second choice, Vodafone's Paul Donovan, did not impress manager Arsène Wenger.

To be fair, I don't know much about Paul Donovan, but this comment pretty much sums up to me an aspect of Arsenal that is clearly completely wrong.

Makes you wonder what the board are even for really.

Let's just sack the lot of them and let Wenger hire 5 more assistants - it seems that he has total control now anyway.

'Manager' seems a little weak as a title for Arsène these days as well. I'd suggest we change it to 'Grand High Conqueror of Arsenal Football club, First Prince of Gillespie Road'. That would sum it up nicely.

Or, maybe, Arsène would be doing a better job as a manager right now if he wasn't busy appointing members to the board as well? Who knows...

who is doing the transfer negotiations now?
We really need to get someone in who hasn't been 'brainwashed' by our rigid philosophy in the transfer market, maybe that's the reason why we haven't signed anyone or part of it at least. AW has to say i want that player and then not be involved in what happens after that so he doesn't track back if the price of the player is a couple of mil above whats expected

Frack this DoF etc - AW's doing those roles anyway - let's just get a fracking manager for the football team...........it would probably be easier & not take 2 fracking years..........

its hard to say, asa, without knowing what the reasons were that wenger didnt like donovan. also, our board isnt necessarily comprised of the most sophisticated businesspeople and frankly, the opinion of the headhunters isnt worth anything, either. who else is there to make an informed decision? i guess thats partly your point.

i wonder what wenger's criteria are though. i mean, we dont even know what the position is, exactly. is it just to deal with transfers? or, are we looking for someone to make the club more money by further commercialisation and selling out? donovan's lack of experience in the sports industry mightve been a fatal flaw.

I don't know where they're going now. Origibnally it was supposed to be two appointments: one a marketeer to push commercialisation, and two a football man a la Dein

I wonder if the difficulty of making an appointment has got anything to do with Edelman's sacking. If I was about to be offered the job I'd get a sounding from him.

It's probably got more to do with the Lodge the board belong to... old school, tie, proper handshake...now that Kroenke is a brother of the "Grand order of the worshipful old brazier", then now he's an all round good chap, but woe betide anyone with lesser credentials.

American press are reporting our first January signing....

According to a source, MLS Deputy Commissioner Ivan Gazidis will be announced as Arsenal's new CEO tomorrow. The move will become effective Jan. 1.

He replaces Keith Edelman, who parted ways with Arsenal in May after eight years with the Premier League club.

Gazidis has been with MLS since 1994 and played a critical role in the creation of the designated player rule and the Superliga tournament. The Oxford law graduate was born in South Africa and raised in England.

Good news I guess. Looks like Kroenke has some inputs in this decision. Maybe this appointment will help the club to expand merchandise more in the US.

It is good to see we have chosen some one who trully brings a lot of positives and experience to the table for the good of the club. I am sure Stan the Man had the input here and am sure we will also improve out marketing in the States through both of these men.
A funny old week we are having!!!

Worst kept 'secret' in football.

Good appointment though as far as I can tell. Any American gooners have anything of note to mention?

Arsenal Quotes

When I first came to Arsenal, I realised the back four were all university graduates in the art of defending. As for Tony Adams, I consider him to be a doctor of defence. He is simply outstanding.
