Schmeichel
Cafu Cannavaro Lucio Carlos
Seedorf-Vieira
Zidane
Messi Ronaldo C.Ronaldo

That team has not only the individual skill, but the right balance (in my view). Seedorf and Vieira were both big-game performers who could shut down an opposing team - perfect platform for the best attackers ever.

Notable absentees - Pele, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Bergkamp, Van Basten, Di Stefano, Buffon, Nesta, Henry, Maldini.

For my all time favourite players XI (perhaps a thread in itself)

That truimtive up top would be devastating.

Rosicky with the silkiness, Smith with the graft and Baros with the deadly finishing.

Ok, since we're switching to favourites rather than best, my line up is:

Lehmann
Zambrotta Stam Toure De Boer
Davids Seedorf
Ljunberg Bergkamp Overmars
Wanchope

Schmichael
Dani Alves – Adams – Maldini – Roberto Carlos
Vieira – Zidane
Ronaldinho
Messi – Ronaldo Luís – Henry
Went for a team with tactical balance. Full-backs push up to support the inside forwards going into the middle. Playmakers in the centre (one box-to-box, one deep-lying and one dribbler) at the expense of a holding player. No-one's getting past Schmichael, Adams or Maldini anyway.

You Dutch mate? :p
Does look that way doesn't it? I'm not obviously, but that crop of Dutch players were just so enjoyable to watch. I happen to think Seedorf is one of the most under-rated players of all time. And seeing Davids biting at everyone right across the pitch always made me smile. Then combined with the class and technique of Berkamp etc, what a spectacle.

League is very weak
Davids was a pretty well rounded player, more than just a "pitbull" type, which he was also.

Del Piero was one of my faves, he had a 'phenom' vibe about him when he was breaking through, you felt you were watching a new Baggio level talent, injuries kicked in not long after.

Davids could go from kicking at a player's heels like a regular Gattuso, to beating a man with a stepover and a sway of his hips, in such a fashion that, from behind, you might mistake him for Ronaldinho.

Blind faith in "LVG filoshophy"
I like those kind of players. My favourite team would be just skilled warriors. Something like:

------------------Mad Jens
C Alberto----PV4---Rijkaard--Maldini
----------Davids----Zidane
Stoichkov----Rivellino-----Alexis
----------------Zlatan

Arsenal Quotes

A manager is a guide. He takes a group of people and says: "With you I can make us a success; I can show you the way".
