Mikel Arteta has hinted at the potential sale of Folarin Balogun this summer with the forward being subject to links away from Arsenal.

Balogun returned to Arsenal following the conclusion of his loan spell at Reim in Ligue 1 last season where he scored 21 in 37 games for the French side.

This led to a call-up for the US national team, where he scored on his debut. Now back at the Emirates, speculation has surrounded the career of the 22-year-old with Arteta suggesting the forward could leave this summer.

What did Mikel Arteta say?

Arsenal have been active this summer, announcing the signings of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice so far with the potential for more.

As for the future of Balogun, and having been subject to interest from the likes of Inter Milan recently, Arteta has refused to rule out the sale of the US international.

Responding after Balogun scored the equaliser for the Gunners against Nurnberg in their latest pre-season friendly, the Spaniard explained: “Well this is what he has been doing and that’s why we gave him the minutes that he deserves to show what he can do.

“He’s just staying here with us at the moment and we will see what happens.”

With Arteta being elusive, Balogun could yet find himself in among the squad for the upcoming season, especially if he continues to repeat his performances.

Who could sign Balogun this summer?

According to a report from Italian outlet La Gazzeta dello Sport, Inter have turned their attention to the young forward having seemingly missed out on Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Crystal Palace were noted with interest in the forward but were put off by the asking price, leaving his future unknown.

Arteta could still find a use for Balogun, especially considering how productive he was in a top-five league last season. He was also the top scorer for under-23 players last season only showcasing his talent and potential even more.
