Nacho Monreal is ‘close’ to leaving Arsenal.

That’s according to reports in Spain.

The Spaniard has been part of the furniture at Arsenal for six-and-a-half years having racked up a total of 250 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 33 year-old position in Unai Emery’s side is massively under threat following the £27m arrival of Kieran Tierney.

Nacho Monreal appeared 22 times in the Premier League for Arsenal in 2018/19

The former Celtic left-back is yet to play for the Gunners as a result of a hernia operation, but the 22 year-old is set to return to full training next week.

According to Spanish radio station Onde Vasca, Real Sociedad are extremely keen to offer Monreal a way out and have put a two-year deal on the table with an option for a further year.

Speaking after the Liverpool defeat, Emery hinted that Monreal could be on his way.

‘[Monreal] made a very big match and he’s a very big professional for us,” Emery said after the 3-1 loss.

‘This is one issue we need to speak in the next few days because in Europe they don’t finish the transfer window yet, but we are going to speak about all the situations and the possibilities.

Unai Emery has hinted at a Monreal exit

‘It’s the reason I was speaking about it not being normal that we finish two weeks ago in Europe because the squad is not completely closed for us at the moment.

‘Some players can leave but we cannot sign another and it depends a little over the next days how we can decide about some circumstances with some players.

‘With Nacho one possibility is open and we are going to speak about that.’
