Arsenal have been given the green light to pursue Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.

Spanish League champions Barcelona are reportedly unhappy with Samuel Umtiti and are willing to listen to offers for the defender.

The Frenchman hasn’t been at his best for the club since his return from last summer’s FIFA World Cup triumph in Russia – he made just 15 appearances this season.

Spanish outlet Marca (via Sport Witness) report that Barcelona would let the centre-back go for an offer of ‘around €40m’, though they do add a couple of details that make a transfer less likely.

Despite the change of manager, the Gunners have again endured a shaky season at the back. After putting themselves in a great position to seal a top four finish, Unai Emery’s side conceded 11 goals in four games and took just one point from those fixtures to hand the initiative back to their rivals.

The north Londoners set an unwanted record of 51 goals against in 38 games- the most they have conceded in any Premier League season.

Gooners, will Umtiti improve our defence? Let us know in the comments…
