Arsene Wenger is once again considering a move for France and Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, according to reports from Spanish outlet, Merca Futbol.

As per the reports from Spain, the French manager, who celebrates his 20th anniversary at the Emirates this week, is weighing up a £40m move for the 28-year-old next summer.

The former Lyon man has often been linked with a move to North London, but it has never materialised, and over the next year it could be harder than ever to land the forward, who bagged 28 goals in all competitions for the Galacticos last season.

The Spanish giants have had a transfer embargo placed upon them, meaning they are unable to sign anyone for the next two windows. Because of this, any players they sell cannot be replaced.

In an attempt to add more bite to the front line this season, Wenger brought in striker Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, who bagged a brace against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

With the Spaniard having only recently arrived, Benzema could well be considered as a replacement for his compatriot, Olivier Giroud.
