Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is set to be sidelined for three weeks, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The defender picked up a hamstring injury in the Gunners’ 3-1 win over Stoke on Saturday.

It’s a big blow for Mustafi and Arsenal. The German has been successfully building a partnership with Laurent Koscielny since his £35m summer switch from Valencia.

“We have Gabriel and holding who can come in for him. Overall I am confident that we can do well,” said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger (via Sky Sports News HQ).

“It’s a bad one. The minimum is 21 days,”

Wenger will now have to turn to Brazilian Gabriel, who has been filling in at right-back, or Rob Holding who impressed in Basel last week.

Arsenal legend Theirry Henry says the German is a big loss.

“What Mustafi brought [when signing in the summer] was stability,” the Frenchman told Sky Sports News HQ.

“It looks like Arsene Wenger has finally found someone to play alongside Koscielny.

“What is going to be important is getting through the games against Everton and Manchester City now.”

The Gunners travel to Everton on Tuesday before a trip to face title rivals Pep Guardiola and his City side at The Etihad on Super Sunday.
