In an era where the great managers hop around like spastic hares and have to win every trophy in every league in order to be considered successful, Wenger has been both an innovator and a traditionalist. Sir Alex put his stamp on Man U and Arsene Wenger has done the same at Arsenal. Both deserve to be recognized as men who built not only winning teams but an entire footballing culture at their respective clubs.

If you want to see the difference Arsene Wenger makes, look at Liverpool, Newcastle, and Tottenham. All areh good clubs, all have long and storied traditions, and none had Arsene Wenger. Wenger is the difference between these sides and Arsenal. Tottenham and Liverpool both have the same or similar resources to Arsenal, but they lack his ability to find and nurture talent. In recent years he’s taken Giroud from mediocrity at Montpelier and made him a 20 goal scorer in England, he did the same with Koscielny, an unheralded center back who has emerged into one ofthe three best in the Premier league. He’s nutured Bellerin into a top-class right back, he’s produced Gibbs, arguably the best left back in an England Uniform, Ramsay has been nutured through injury and set backs to become a top midfielder. Wenger stuck with Wilshire through his injuries, and Abou Diaby through the horror show career. People criticize Wenger for some of these things, but I’m proud that Arsneal sticks by its players.

When Fabregas was available, Arsene Wenger did not sign him because he stood by Ozil, Ramsay, and Wilshire; showing loyalty to his players and eschewing the quick fix and the easy appplause of a big money signing to keep faith with his own lads. Too many Arsenal fans forgot how fickle and crass Fabregas was when he left. He flirted with Barcelona for years, hinting it was his natural home, the club of his heart and so on. Look how long they stuck with him when his form dipped. I’m glad Arsene Wenger showed faith in the players who stuck with the club, even if it cost the team a win or two.

I like that he signed Petr Cech and no one else. He has the money, he could have silenced all his critics by signing any one of a dozen players. Pedro would be wearing Arsenal red if Arsene Wenger wanted him. Ditto Schneiderlin and Milner. Look at the money Man U spent on Schweinsteiger and friends, but the best central midfielder on the pitch in the Arsneal-Man U game was Francis Coquelin, an Arsenal academy player.

Congrats to Arsene Wenger and lets hope for another four years.
