Pundit Kevin Campbell believes Arsenal will hand defender William Saliba a new deal, following his streak of impressive performances.
THE LOWDOWN: TURNAROUND
Saliba has been on Arsenal’s books since 2019, but he spent the last two-and-half seasons away from the club on loan. His impressive performances at Olympique Marseille in the previous campaign, led to the Gunners recalling him back to the squad ahead of the current campaign.
The highly-rated French defender has since taken the Premier League by storm, scoring two goals and formed a formidable partnership with Gabriel Malghaes at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.
His consistent efforts have since prompted Arsenal to initiate contract renewal talks with him and a massive fan of his, Campbell, believes it should not be a problem.
THE LATEST: PUNDIT’S CLAIM
Former Arsenal man Kevin Campbell is confident that the club will offer Saliba a new contract.
Speaking about the centre-back’s future recently, Campbell is convinced they will hand him a new contract.
He tells Football Insider: “There is a new contract that is going to be sorted out. The quicker Arsenal fans see that the better. He is phenomenal. There was a lot said about Ivan Toney getting picked for the England squad. Toney was not a threat in the game at all. They nullified him.
“A lot of the good play starts from the back with Arsenal. Saliba’s passing and composure on the ball makes such a difference, it really does.”
THE VERDICT: HE NEEDS TO STAY
Saliba is one of the reasons Arsenal have started the season as early title contenders. His ability to read the game is key and understanding with Gabriel at the back has come in handy. If Arsenal will achieve anything this season, the Frenchman will play an important role.
If he stays fit, Arsenal can be assured that he will keep delivering fine performances at the Emirates. Nonetheless, the club’s hierarchy should see to his contract renewal before it becomes an issue.
