Gabriel Jesus has made a positive impression since joining Arsenal but what really convinced him to join the club?

THE LOWDOWN: MARQUEE SIGNING

Arsenal have made four additions so far this summer but it’s safe to say none has excited fans like the signing of Gabriel Jesus. Having failed to break into Pep Guardiola’s first team at Manchester City, the Brazilian completed a £45m switch to north London and will now be the focal point in attack under Mikel Arteta.

He has already shown signs of what is to come, with three goals and an assist in his first two games of pre-season. Much recently, the player’s agent, Marcelo Pettinati, revealed that Chelsea made a late attempt to hijack the forward’s move to Arsenal but to no avail.

Indeed, there was much competition for Jesus, with Tottenham and Juventus also linked to the player at one point in the window.

In the end, he chose Arsenal and he has now narrowed down on what made him pick the Gunners amongst a host of interested parties.

THE LATEST: THAT AMAZING CONVERSATION

Like Wolverhampton Wanderers have a certain thing for Portuguese players, Arsenal are beginning to grow a loving for Brazilian superstars. This is for no reason other than Edu Gaspar, former Arsenal star and Brazil international, who is the current technical director at the club.

Arsenal brought in Gabriel Magalhaes two seasons ago and have now added two other Brazilians in Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos this summer alone. If things go to plan, one more Brazilian could yet join, with the Gunners’ still maintaining an interest in Lyon star Lucas Paqueta.

Speaking while on tour with Arsenal in the US, Jesus explained that his conversation with Edu Gaspar played a key role in convincing him to move to the Emirates.

“First of all was when Edu came to talk with me and ask me how I am, how I’m feeling as a person and then after as a football player – what I want in the future,” Jesus said.

“I think the conversation between me and Edu was amazing. I was so happy with the project of the club. And then, straight [away], I say ‘yes, I think my way is in London’.”

THE VERDICT: RIGHT TRACK

Gabriel Jesus has started his Arsenal career on the right note and the signs continue to encourage with each passing day. It is also refreshing to see that he’s making the right comments and hinting he already feels at home at the Emirates.
