Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus could find himself on the bench at the World Cup, according to a report.

THE LOWDOWN: FANTASTIC START AT ARSENAL

Jesus has started his career at Arsenal on a bright note. He has made an impact in multiple games this season and has redefined the number nine role at the Emirates with his hard work and selfless play.

However, his recent goal drought has not shielded him from criticism at all. However, he is with the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Jesus’ position in the team does not look guaranteed at the moment and it looks as if there is an update on his status with the Selecao.

THE LATEST: TIME ON THE BENCH

Gabriel Jesus, who is one of Brazil’s finest players in the Premier League, could be listed on the bench for the South Americans at the World Cup in Qatar.

The possible reason for this isn’t far-fetched, as Jesus’ form in front of goal for the national team is quite poor and he currently has direct competitor in Spurs’ Richarlison.

Going by the report in The Sun, the Spurs forward is set to play ahead of Jesus and the report gave an explanation.

“The last competitive goal that Gabriel Jesus scored for Brazil came almost three and a half years ago. In twenty matches, starting most of them, he has been on target once – in stoppage time of a friendly that was already won.

“Richarlison, meanwhile, has seven goals in the last six games, a run of form which has changed the way that Brazil set up their side.

“A few months ago it was likely that Brazil would go to the World Cup without a centre forward, with two wingers and Neymar as a false nine. Richarlison has forced a change.”

THE VERDICT: NOT SURPRISED

Jesus’ work rate and zeal upfront is second to none but in a talented squad that the Brazilians have, it is a finisher they need upfront, which Jesus isn’t really that guy.

In the league, Jesus may have done better than Richarlison, but his goal-scoring form with Tite’s side puts him slightly ahead of the Arsenal man.
