Played it against Leicester and we saw how good they looked together. Unfortunately Emery was too quick to abandon it just because they didn't play as well together against Crystal Palace in the next game.

Yeah remember you saying this a couple of times .

Arsenal had a collective day to forget as they were thrashed 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday but spare a thought for striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He went into the game as the league's top scorer but had just 13 touches before being substituted in the 71st minute.

To make matters worse, SIX of those touches were from the kick-off.

Don't believe us? Here's his touch map to prove it.

As the map shows, the Gabon international was only given the ball once in the Liverpool penalty area and more of his touches come in his own penalty area than Liverpool's.

Aubameyang's 13 touches was his lowest total in any game he has started this season and only Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has had fewer touches when playing at least 70 minutes in the Premier League this season - he had 11 touches in 87 minutes for Leicester against Arsenal in October.

Unsurprisingly, Aubameyang also made the fewest passes of any player to have played the majority of the match.

He made just 10 passes although they were all successful so he ended the game as the only player with 100% passing accuracy.

Although today was an extreme case, but as highlighted above this man needs Lacazette out there with him at all times.

We need to stick to our 4-3-1-2 formation which suits our strikers the best and with a no10 behind them in Özil we need to stop switching constantly.

Serious question - didnt he play up top alone at Dortmund? Why is it that he can't do so for us? Leading goalscorer in the league says it works doesnt it?

but Holding’s hair transplant was painless
Dortmund played direct, with pace and width. We don't. At times this gseason, he's seemed to be upfront on his own. Lone striker, lone press, lonely! No coincidence that most of his goals come when on the pitch with Laca or Welbeck.

Because it is more physical and demanding in the premier League. Check a post in the previous page that shows number of goals he scored when Laca was on the pitch and number of goals without Laca. In premier league, you need pace with physicality.

We have Laca who is strong physically, has really good finishing skills. But he suffers from lack of pace and could do with better positioning. Then we have Auba who is the exact opposite. Lots of pace and great positioning. But gets pushed over by strong defenders and misses sitters often.
If only we do some genetics bullshit to merge the two into one player. Till then, both need each other. We need both.

At Dortmund he had better attacking players to supply him. We are quite poor if we play him without Laca. Against Liverpool, we made him look worse than I've ever seen Giroud. Wingers will allow him to play the lone role better but we don't have any.

It's amazing because his conversion rate is the best in the PL , if he manages to score a few tap ins it would be mind boggling.

That header which was marginally mossed was a result of sharp movement and great technique. Deceptively strong too. Think he is a little under in his confidence with regards to running at defenders.

Thanks for replies, I wasn't sure if Dortmund played a quick counter or not, as you can see how he would work in that setup, plus i'm sure as you say having some decent wingers will probably help him as well as he is good positionally in the box and we can push the play out wide rather than through him as the CF which would help.

One thing i did notice and i'm not sure if I have imagined it or not, is that we don't seem to have as much space to run into behind our opponents defense which seriously limits the amount of time we can actually take advantage of his pace, not sure if this is because we press teams back more, or they purposely sit deep to negate his pace or we are just particularly bad at exploiting space/looking for through balls - poeple seem to hit us over the top/down the middle/between the full back/Centre back over and over but i don't see us do it that often!

It's this. Slow build up, we almost push teams back into their own goal, not enough movement to create space to move into and use attackers agility and pace.

True. A pacy dribbler to lead a counter and wide players who can supplement an attack properly will make us better.

The current top scorer in the league should not be immune from criticism. Berbatov used to finish as the league’s top scorer, doesn’t make him a great striker.
Auba’s doing well but truth is there’s a lot he can improve on.

Maybe. But it's also of a tactical nature. Emery wants slow build up. That's nothing bad per se, it's e.g. a trademark of Lucien Favre who's tearing the Bundesliga a new one this season with Dortmund. The crux is just how to create space in the final third now that you've pushed the opposition back. Having certain kinds of players certainly helps, but it can be done with average guys as well, something the mentioned Favre has shown at Gladbach and Nice. In that case it's more about implementing triggers and patterns for movement and passing, which is something this team has lacked under Wenger and is still lacking under Emery.

But also looking at Favre again, his slow build up definitely works better the better and more natural wingers he has at hand. But I'm not too sure Emery and Favre is a good comparison bar both using slow build up. Emery seems to tend to a more narrow setup and width mainly provided by the fullbacks, whereas Favre's wingers stay wide until very high up the field.

Arsenal Quotes

It was a unique moment, a football fairytale. Was there anyone left who still believed I could give that kind of performance? Probably only Arsène Wenger.
