He's technically a lot better than right to be fair.

True, but I like my goalkeeper to have personality, a presence, someone to be scared of.
weren't seaman like the milk man, everyone likes him and says hello because he was so friendly?

But he did have an aura about him, with Seaman in goal you knew it was going to be hard to score as a striker. I don't have that same feeling with Kirkland.

Krikland cant handle crosses that well. Hes got good reflexes but that alone is not good enough.

wasn't it his record that provided the presence? (question not statement in any way at all).

I think that was a part of it, but above all he had great composure that made everyone calm and assured.

I'd prefer Boruc tbh, unless ofcourse kirkland remains consistent, and prevents injury this season.

An injury prone GK is the last thing we need.

There still seems to be a lot of talk about goalkeepers, but has lehman really played that badly this term? I know its hard to forget some of his howlers, but has he learnt to control himself more?
He has looked pretty solid so far this season! ( He'll probably make me eat my words tonight)
But with all the weakness's in the squad right now is a GK our priority?
I dont think so

I wish I had a pound for every time Arsenal were linked with a keeper they'd played the previous saturday... Some really, really stupid names have been bandied around in the past, although in my oppinion this is one of the better ones.

I like Jens a lot, he's got a great work ethic and a bit of character. He's an underrated keeper, not the best in the world but far, far from the worst. But at his age, you really have to think that this should be his last season. Wenger kept ahold of Seaman too long, and hopefully he'll have learnt from his mistake this time around. In short, this should be Jens' last season at Arsenal, and the attempt at signing Viera over the summer was probably a premature hint at that. Could Kirkland replace him? Well, as long as he stays fit, there's no doubt that he's an extremely talented keeper. As long as we had someone in reserve in case he had another unfortunate accident, I think we could do a whole lot worse than look at him... Not to say there aren't others I prefer (Isaaksson, Given, Casillas if we're dreaming), but Kirkland wouldn't be as much of an embarrassment as, say, Ricardo. One has to wonder if he's going to get through the famed Arsenal medical tests though...

The WBA was not the first game Kirkland had kept us at bay, remember super Franny's dive to win us a match at Highbury when Kirkland was inspired as well. I rate him highly but he is very injury prone, apart from that I think he has what it takes to be one of the best keepers around.

what you guys don't think seaman looked scary. With that mustach and porno-ponytail I sure as h*** would run far far away from him.

But he wasn't anywhere near Ollie Khan. Man even his teammates are scaried of him. I heard Scholl saying something on Tv once: I am only scared of two things, War and Kahn. Lehamann comes quite close thou. Where Kahn looked like an neanderthal Jens looks like a man on death row

I would go for Isakkson great guy with ahelluva character. i have said it before in another tread but I will quote myself (is that even possible) He has a great character. In Rennes first couple of games he conceded like 15 goals then came home to Sweden to play the Euro-qualifier and was astonishing with some really good saves and after that Rennes turned around abit.

"Kirkland wouldn't be as much of an embarrassment as, say, Ricardo. One has to wonder if he's going to get through the famed Arsenal medical tests though..." asajoseph.

What is wrong with Ricardo, if that is the name for the portugiese goalie. he was very cool in the Euro cup man the penalties and the advice from Eusubio. A bit of a showman thou and maybe goalie isn't the best place for a showman.

And for the medical test man do we have fascist physichians. Vieira didn't get past them but he did in Villareal as a replacement for Reina (whom I would've liked) so he must be good

Once again Isaksson, grat goalie. Big strong guy who covers area well and has quick reflexes and panther like diving skills. And he can throw the ball with accuracy well over half the pitch. Just want to rub it in, ISAKSSON

Yeah Isaksson...the guy who will look brilliant one game and then give up 5 goals the next, no thanks. I actually wouldn't mind Kirkland IF he could prove to stay healthy for a long period of time, my only concern about him. He has all the tools a top notch GK needs and he's still young enough for any team to build around for the future.

have you got a source Ratinho? I did a quick Google search but couldn't find one - I thought he was only there on loan at the moment?

I was reading the Metro this morning (free paper for commuters in scotland, dont know if anyone else gets it) and there was a quote from Gordon Strachan...

"Arsenal can **** off, Borucs going nowhere, I've chained him to the goalposts and I've posted a 24 hour guard just to make sure he doesnt gnaw through the steel. It might be a bit difficult when we have to change ends, but we'll work around it somehow. Who the **** are you anyway?"

He has just signed a long term deal...

but he also goes on to say he wants to play in the premiership...
