Immense performance fron xhaka tonight and i speak seriously
He and ceballos were both decent today. Our attacking outlets were piss poor. Particularly the fullbacks and amn.
Wait till his fanboys come up with stats on number of forward passes he made. We forgot how to attack through the middle ever since Cazorla left. Apparently playing the ball to the full back day in and day out is considered a glorious attacking move. Probably years of watching Xhaka and the other trash we signed as CM reduced our standards and people just forgot what a good midfield looks like. No wonder we have settled down as a mid-table team.I think we're missing the point here.
It is a fundamental issue that we rely on the fullback positions to be the driving force of our attacks and absolve midfield of any responsibility for both creating chances and scoring goals.
You will NEVER see a team finish in the top 2 positions of any league without a dynamic/fluid midfield where a CM can provide a 15-20 G/A contribution. Partey won't be that guy either.
The reason the likes of Xhaka and Elneny get so much game time is they are rewarded for simply distributing the ball between centre backs and full backs for 90 minutes in possession, and marking space. Even at the expense of finding our attackers early, in space.
Everything else is down to our full backs. That's why we have the worst attacking stats in the league and the 5th highest European goalscorer since 2015 playing like Jozy Altidore.
Social media literally going crazy praising Xhaka for a monster of a performance.
It's literally what a central midfielder should be doing every single game. That thing called tackling.
This was like a good Coquelin performance.
But but.... He is a deep lying playmaker. We should not be expecting him to tackle. You will get some response like that.Social media literally going crazy praising Xhaka for a monster of a performance.
