From what I've seen with the Portuguese national team, he is a pretty solid defender. Just behind Carvalho and Jorge Andrade in the pecking order with Portugal.

It's worth Wenger looking into, especially with Toure gone in January (and Cygan playing like he usually does...)

Unfortunately, there are plenty of defenders out there just as bad, or nearly as bad as Cygan. Most of them are fortunate enough not to play too many games, and rarely are they played out of position like Cygan has been. Of course, I do think he's rubbish. But ABC (Anyone But Cygan) is not really a sensible policy to approach the signing of a CB with!

another rumour, this time suggesting he comes in on loan in January, presumably for 6 months.

There may be a few quality players looking for a six month loan ahead of the WC if they're not playing regularly for their club.

He didnt do too well last season because his daughter died. He lost his focus, that's normal human nature.

If the media is to be believed (and we all know to take them at their word...) this looks to be a loan deal.

If that's the case, surely the standards of quality can be relaxed just a little bit? Of course, no one wants to waste time, or weaken the squad, etc- but coverage is coverage, no?

If he fits, we build on it, if not- hey, more bodies. Something a lot of people have been clamoring for...

A loan thing would be good with Kolo away and Cygan, well being Cygan. Doesn't seem like that great of a defender but he is a portugal national so he can't be that bad. Preferably we would go for a CB that is left footed and can play on the left aswell
