Read somewhere that Bournemouth wanted to buy someone from Brentford for 17m. And we'd be selling Mesut ****ing Özil for that amount?

Close thread and start him vs Chelsea.

To be fair, Chris Mepham won't come with a £350,000-a-week wage packet. I've been one of Özil's biggest fans and defenders, but if it's true that he's not in Emery's plans then the club needs to try to move him and get those wages off the books. Nobody else is going to pay him that much, so Arsenal will need to, in effect, subsidize his wages with a low transfer fee. We can debate the wisdom of Gazidis signing Özil to such a massive contract (partially, I suspect, in order to calm fans who were freaking out about losing the club's two most famous big-name players for nothing). But what's done is done. Their options for rectifying the situation are limited.

Not surprised the club hiher ups leaked this to Orny, since all the Minslintat press was bound to cast a negative light on the board and they need a diversion.

This is distressing .

Driving out a guy who clearly wants to contribute

Timing seems odd to me, also this was not the usual MO for Arsenal under Baldy and Wenga, but new regime and all that.

But Mesuts PR game is strong and that picture of him training plus the Minslintat news were bound to rustle some feathers at the club.

I think his treatment by Emery has been all sorts of wrong, but if it's the direction the club want to take there ain't much we can do.

The bit about him not pulling his weight on the extra work seems like a lazy attempt to play on the notion that he doesn't work hard (again, his PR team and that photo...).

Is this what living under the trump administration feels like? Every day a new scandal so to speak...

For 5 seasons prior to Emery arriving, Özil rarely ever put in a consistent level of performance over a decent period. He then held the club over a barrel at a testing time when they were going through a transition after 22 years and losing their top performer (in an individual sense). The club caved (not Özil's fault) and he ended up as one of the very highest paid players in the league, better paid (in some cases a lot better) than players who produce consistently, compete at the highest level, and offer goal threats (Salah, Hazard, Kane, Eriksen, Mane, Firmino, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aubameyang). Then he largely continued his inconsistent level of performance this season. Yet now, people are nuthugging Özil because he's better than Denis Suarez?!

Have people forgotten all of this?

Who cares what he earns.
The team tasked with rebuilding a squad to compete for Champions League places on a limited budget, of which an obscene and unwarranted chunk is going to Özil to consitently perform well below the level of top performers like Auba, Laca and Torreira who are on a fraction of that and would probably like either a pay raise or to play for a club in the Champions League?

He currently is by far our best no. 10 and there is no reason not to play him if he's fit. At least put him on the bench. He can contribute more than ****ing 3 wingbacks as substitutes.

He isn't fit because he keeps giving himself back spasms playing Fortnite. If he's so great, why has he performed inconsistently for most of 5.5 years at Arsenal?

Ramsey and Özil will be gone by the summer and Cech. Big changes in the summer then

Nah he won’t leave. Even if we offered to let him go for free he’d still struggle to get that much money. We just have to hope he does what’s asked of him and becomes more consistent.

Arsenal Quotes

As a club, we have an educational purpose: to give back to those people who love Arsenal so that they learn moral values from our game and how we behave.
