Couldn't the rest of Europe sign him on a pre-contract since January?

Not many teams banging down the door to get him.
I'm sure he's got lots of European offers. Not that I think he's great or anything but a player would be mad to not wait for the PL offers that they might receive. The difference in wages is getting bigger by the season

How is MacAllister 45m but Caicedo is 80-90m? Maybe Caicedo is a bit better but how is he double the price.

Caicedo's younger, in a position that is notoriously difficult to excel at & clearly seen by Brighton to be the bigger talent. Not inconceivable to see how signing the contract extension added at least 10m to his price.

It's worth him waiting to see what the richer PL clubs will offer him tbh

Doubt any of the big clubs are interested in him anymore. His craven performances & overall apathetic attitude have been on full display this season.

If he's staying in the PL, it's midtable fare for him.

If the whisper of low release clause is correct, then not much Brighton can do. However knowing that he would have been available for 45m and we did not go for him in the winter is comical. I mean had we MacAllister for the second part of the season, we may had 6 more points.

Now Caicedo is 1.5 times the player MacAllister is.

It doesn't matter, Villa are paying Kamara over 200k a week, they'll offer at least that to Tielemans. Also Villa maybe starting to build an impressive squad if they pull that one off.

It's quite likely the clause only kicked in for the summer window
