Jack of all trades, master of nothing? Check

Hallmarks of a Wenger signing.

Yeah, just like Arshavin and Vermaelen.

I knew a smart arse would come out and say that. Lol. Those two weren't really hallmark signings though were they? Hallmark signings are like Diaby.

So this guy is a young talent for the future?

Sagna: Diakhate would be a great signing for Arsenal

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna believes that £10million-rated star Pape Malickou Diakhate would be an excellent signing for the club.

MirrorFootball revealed on May 5 that the 25-year-old Dinamo Kiev centre-back is set to become the Gunners' first defensive signing this summer as Arsène Wenger revamps his backline.

Versatile Diakhate can also play at left-back, left-midfield and defensive midfield. He has Champions League experience having played against the Gunners for Kiev two years ago and he has an EU passport having come through the ranks at French club Nancy.

Right-back Sagna said: "I know him. He is Senegalese like me and plays for the national team. He played for Nancy in France so I played against him a few times.

"I have met him a few times and he is a very good guy and a very good player.

"He is very dangerous at set-pieces. I don't know what the plan is for next year. We are all waiting to see what the manager does but Malickou he would be very welcome in our team."

The Kiev star is back in the Ukraine after six months on loan at French club St Etienne.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, however, has entered the race to sign him while Sp**s boss Harry Redknapp is also said to be keen.

But Arsenal are understood to be in pole position with out-of-contract Sol Campbell a target for Celtic and William Gallas almost certain to quit the club for either Paris St Germain or Roma this summer.

Looked like such a rash unintelligent player, and isnt physically imposing.

Exactly, Dules. That's why I said he's like the Adebayor of CBs.

I just hope we don't sign him. :bash

Diakhate and Schwarzer to replace Gallas and Average Al? We'll concede 45 goals next season.

If Gallas leaves and we only bring in this guy, we'll be up **** creek as soon as Vermaelen gets injured or suspended.

And replace whom? Clichy? I don't think we need a LB with Clichy, Gibbs, and Traore (if he stays).

Re: Pape Malickou Diakhate

Watched this guy playing vs Denmark. Seems like a supreme physical specimen. The kind of player who wouldn´t get bullied by Drogba...

Too bad it looked as if he can´t defend even if his life depended on it! Very suspect positionally on numerous occasions.

Played as part of a midfield three in the last 20, (and I have to say to his defense somewhat that Senegal´s defense looked way worse when he wasn´t a part of it.)

He was of course partly to blame for this since none of the midfielders looked as if they had the first clue about defending. All of them went completely missing on several occasions. (Think us vs Chelsea away). Also he had a knack of jogging back when he was bypassed in midfield...

He didn´t look too bad on the ball though, and looked good in the air!

Seriously, if we sign this guy I will be VERY, VERY disappointed!

Rex you've just described his performance in the three or four matches I've seen him

Re: Pape Malickou Diakhate

Couldn´t remember how he looked against us, so I was really looking forward to seeing him. Utter crap if you ask me. This guy WILL NEVER improve his positional play to be good enough for us from what I saw today.

Also, he looked completely unaware of what was going on behind his back.

I had more of an eye of Kjaer, but, I did try and watch what this guy was up to. He's not a terrible player, but, not a starter for us by any means. Would probably be a "Christopher Samba" type of player for one of the smaller clubs in the League though.

Re: Pape Malickou Diakhate

so buying him because he IS the player we thought Diaby was going to be?

If that is what YOU thought/think Diaby will be I feel sorry for you. That would actually mean that little Abou will regress. In my book Diaby is way better than this guy.

Re: Pape Malickou Diakhate

well I do think that Diaby WAS a great talent. but his talent years are past him now. the third spot in midfield needs to offer something special. Diaby has some of teh qualities. when he is great he is just what we need, but well you know he is too inconsistent

the other guys really does not offer what we need

Unusually I read Sagna would like to see him at the Club...played against him in Ligue 1 and found him to be a very good player
