It shouldn't be.

If Wenger wants to hang his hat with the Diabys and Eboues of this world, then I suppose he's got another 7-8 months to prove the whole world wrong. If he's the one with egg on his face, again, I hope he clears out and takes that sorry bunch with him.

We've got a strong enough squad for the top four, unless we suffer some horrible injuries and Man City/Tottenham deliver on their early season promise then we're going to be in the top four for another year. I think we can make the top three personally and that should be the minimum expected from now on, we don't want to have to go through that qualifying nonsense again.

Tell me this, why is it acceptable just to finish in the top four these days?

Yes Don It seems to. Not to me but Wenger and our Board.

on a completely "who cares" note - Freddy Adu was loaned out from Benfica to Belenenses..

Yes, well the problem is (and this is fact) that the priority of the board to the shareholders, is to supply them with profits and not trophies. Now whilst those requirements are the same at all clubs, we have a manager who actually agrees with those ideals.

With a couple of well-placed transfers we could have seriously increased the certainty of having a good season; now it's up to chance, something Wenger seems happy to do as history has shown us before.

I still think Wenger thinks his squads are good enough to win the league. He doesn't aim for the top four, he just doesn't do enough to improve our chances of a title a bid.

Happy that Senderos stayed, gives us depth in defence.

Not signing a back up for Song could be a disaster though.

We have enough options for the two attacking positions in midfield.

Yeah maybe Wenger has real belief we can win something this season with this squad, which I don't agree.
With ACN we will lose Song for a month, then we don't have any holding midfielder.
If we struggle to get into 4th then Wenger buy big in the January (ex Arshavin)

AW probably thinks Senderos, Djourou or Vermaelen could do a job at DM if required. Phil was played there during pre-season. I'd have much preferred a specialist like Matuidi as back-up. Arsène and his "versatility" obsession!

Yes and we tried Nasri on DM role last season isn't it? We have MASSIVE squad you know, Wenger said that by himself. lol

No Vieira ? No Chamakh ? No Matuidi ? No Subotic ? That really comes as a big surprise.

If Wenger thinks that this squad is good enough to win a major trophy, the so be it. He is aware of the fact that this season is a very important one, especially to keep the key members of the squad. I won't criticize him, I'll wait until May to see if there will be some silverware on the table. If not, then the club should consider his postion as a manager.

Senderos is our new signing. :thumbup
In a (in my opinion good) way he kind of is. The question is whether Wenger has any intention of using him before Silvestre. If he does (but where has Senderos been?) then we are stronger at CB than last season.

As for no other, as yet, signings, Wenger is obviously banking on returns to fitness for Nasri and Rosicky.

Well, wasn't this great fun? I guess the only good thing about today is that no other top sides strengthened.

Arsenal Quotes

The only moment of possible happiness is the present. The past gives regrets. And future uncertainties. Man quickly realised this and created religion. It forgives him what he has done wrong in the past and tells him not to worry about the future, as you will go to paradise.
