People need to remember we bought Saliba as a highly touted 18 year old centre back with around 30 first team appearances to his name. We bought him as a long term investment. A loan is fine.

Seriously how many 19 year old centre backs play regularly for top 4 teams anywhere in Europe? Not many.

If hes going on loan it should be in England. Hes had a year knowing hes coming to Arsenal and doesnt speak a word of English going by interviews. Mustn't have been doing lessons in France.

Ben White, Mount, Tomori etc all developed in the Championship. Loan him there. He needs to get adapted to English football, the culture, the language and in a year or two he will be ready. Sending him to France again is putting him back in his comfort zone and by the time he comes back he will need more time to adapt.

Surely he's good enough to get game time in the Thursday farmers league group stages. That's a good way of keeping him here, continuing his conditioning work etc then can assess & loan him in January.
That should also allow the like of Mari, Mustafi & Chambers to get fully fit. It is only 10 weeks from the end of this international break coming until January.

Don't think Rennes being in the Champions league should be much of a draw tbh, they'll struggle big time even though they're in the easiest group.

Watched them twice against Celtic in the Europa group stages last season and they looked really bad, much worse than when they played us the year before. They also got beaten home and away in that group from Cluj ffs, finishing with 4 points.

Maybe they've improved again since then but if its a similiar squad I could see Chelsea and Sevilla giving them a couple of hammerings which won't be great for Saliba's confidence imo. And we already know he can cut it in the French league anyway.

Send him to Celtic to develop for a year imo. He can win a few trophies and learn the physical side of the game plus he’ll be out of his comfort zone.

What does he gain from going back to Ligue 1?

Not sure why we insisted to make him skip the French Cup final, only to loan him back to another French club. Very poor planning and makes us look like cold unfeeling clowns. And he's had a family demise to deal with.

And if he's not ready, let him go on loan at a English club. That's how you properly get ready - tactics, language, culture. No?

Would be better send him on loan than leaving him at home Arteta and coaching stuff know better they know he not ready yet

That's a good point, but if he can get regular minutes at Rennes that's not so bad. They are in the CL after all. Also I wouldn't want to get involved in twitter gossip but if it is true that his mother passed away recently probably a more familiar environment is better for his mental health than being sent to live in Derby or somewhere.

I mean it sucks cos I really wanted to see him play in an Arsenal shirt already, but it's not the end of the world.

Rugani more advanced than Saliba at this stage.

No but you would expect a young elite level rated defender who we paid 27m for that already has significant senior level experience at his previous club would be ready to get at least some minutes in the league cup. It ain’t like the rest of our central defenders are sh!t hot.

True but it depends on if the move is being considered for personal reasons or footballing ones.

If it’s footballing reasons then Celtic would be perfect for him as long as he’s starting. Their development of players and eye for talent is slightly underrated, the likes of Edouard and Dembele have boosted their profile up there. A move to Rangers even helped Arteta earlier in his career.

So Raul spent £100m on Pepe and Saliba, neither of who are significant contributors in a near future and because of that, Arteta won't be able to improve the squad.

Like that idea, seems to have a close relationship with them could work out really well for us. Also the SPL would help prepare any player for the physicality of the prem which is what most new players struggle with at first

You don't send a promising player who needs to get used to the pace, physicality and pressure of the PL to a team that will walk the league for the 10th year in a row.

Why did we spend €30m+ ánd grant him an extra year of development at his home team if we're going to loan him out again because our plumbers can't be sold. Just put the plumbers on loan or in the reserves and play the highly rated talent.

This makes absolutely zero sense from a footballing perspective.
