Judge this deal in May 2020, he's going to play a full season of ligue 1 football. We don't pay that much right now. Imagine he makes the Euro 2020 squad for France or something, he could be a steal. Deals like this you have to be ahead of the rest and take a risk, if he turns out to be the real deal and you didn't sign him in time he'll cost 70M -80M and you'll compete with Barca, Juve, Madrid, City for his signature. Like De Ligt. So you won't get him. I think we did well. And your criticism of his sell on clause is not really well placed, we pay 20% of anything we get above the initial cost. To get your figure we would have to sell him on for at least 80M+ which would mean he turned out great.

Wait so we didn't just break our transfer record, build a shiny new stadium, qualify for the champions league, have a manager adored by everyone, the darlings of the media and he STILL chose to join Arsenal.
