Much speculation has arose lately involving Arsenal’s interest in both Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani. If reports are to be believed, Benzema is the main target for Arsenal, but the club has balked at Real Madrid’s asking price. Wenger has now turned his attention to Cavani instead, and could be set to make a bid for the player.

Assuming there is any truth to these reports at all, would Cavani suffice as a suitable alternative for Benzema? Shocking Copa America campaign aside, you would have to say he is. Cavani grew disgruntled playing out on the wing at PSG, but still managed to score 31 goals in 53 total matches last season.

In fact he has maintained an impressive goal ratio of .58 goals per match during his three seasons in the French capital, with 57 total goals in 98 appearances. He doesn’t seem too be uncomfortable on the wings after all, and that is the stuff of a true talisman.

Compare that with Benzema’s 22 goals in 46 appearances last season and 87 goals in 188 total appearances for Real Madrid, and it is actually Cavani who has the better ratio (although having played three less seasons). Make no mistake, Benzema is Arsenal’s primary target for a reason, but choosing between the two is really picking straws.

Cavani would get his favoured centre forward role at Arsenal as well, and you get the sense his goal tally will improve even more. Most gooners may have their hearts set on Benzema at this point for his intelligent movement and brilliant finishing ability, but Cavani can be credited with that as well.

He adds something different with his fantastic aerial ability and long shot expertise as well, and for me he is a fabulous option if indeed the Benzema deal falls through.

What do you think gooners? Would Cavani suffice if Benzema falls through?

I know that arsenal can make the most mediocre striker look good, it think the question should be whether he is ready for arsenal, he will be overwhelmed with goal scoring opportunities ….

In my humble but honest opinion, we need Cavani more than
we need Benzema. Cavani’s mobility is better than Benzema.
Unlike both Giroud and Benzema, Cavani quickly recovers after loosing possession, the Sancjes way. Both French attackers
usually walk or stop after loosing possession.

Cavani on the other hand is very adventurous and full of tricks.
Can go past any defence if and when he chooses.
