Report – Not Gonalons: Arsenal Make Official Approach For Unsettled French Midfielder
Arsenal are preparing a transfer bid for unsettled PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot after already making an official approach for the player, according to Le10Sport.

Rabiot is a 19-year-old French midfielder who plays mostly as a defensive minded central player. He would be a natural replacement for Arteta as age gets the better of his form, however he would not provide the immediate World Class option that many Arsenal fans desire in that position. There is no denying Rabiot’s potential and the current contract situation allows for Arsenal to have a great chance of signing him.

Rabiot stands at 6ft 2 and has managed three caps for the French U-21 National team. According to the report in Le10Sport, contract talks have stalled completely and with the teenagers contract expiring in 2015, he will be hot property this summer as clubs look to take advantage. Several European giants have been linked to the midfielder, including Monaco, Juventus and Chelsea.

Due to his potential, any deal would seem positive. However at the expense of a player like Bender or Schneiderlin, the deal becomes less appealing. In an ideal World both players would be signed, with perhaps Rabiot going out on loan for a season. The deficiencies of Arteta were proven on numerous occasions this season and the area needs to be addressed urgently for the Gunners to compete for the league title again.

I have no problem signing him but we would need another (ready now) DM as well and I dont see us buying 2 this summer.

Hope this is true!!!

This guy is a hidden gem. He has a body of a 25 and is very mature player despite he's still 19!!!

Speed, power, technique, strength, ... he has it all! Just need to improve under a better manager!!!

The only issue is that he's not a pure DM but more a box-to-box.

Looks talented, good technique and a powerful lad. He seems to eat up the pitch and knock players over in challenges.

Apparently his contract is up in 2015 and he's demanding 60k a week.

I know nothing about him but having watched the clips he does not look or play like a 19 yr old. A lot of the play seems to go through him, so his team mates obviously trust him. Many wont agree but he looks like an upgrade on Arteta already and looks to have a great future.

Stats look great, successful pass rate of around 90%

Will be a class player in the future. Already very big and strong for a 19 year old. Will be surprised if Psg let him go but would be happy with us snapping him up.

Wow, this one is out of left field.

Kid is a huge talent, but I thought he would stay at PSG eventually. Passes well, good strength, and an underrated tackler IMO. He's seen more B2B but he has potential as a DM/DLP type. Nice skill set.

This won't be the fan-pleaser, but this guy has the potential to be f-cking brilliant. Definitely an Arteta-type but perhaps a tad more robust.

F-cking Arsène . Never the obvious option.....

If he does move it looks like us or Chelsea. So he has to chose between a Portuguese **** or the best French manager of all time :D

Agreed, I've never really considered him a pure DM, although he has a lot of good attributes so could see Arsène moulding him into that player. Such a classic Wenger signing.

Interesting.

That and whether he fancies first team chances or to be loaned out across Europe for the next 5 years before being sold on.

We were linked with him last year. Massive talent and physical potential, and could be the perfect player in our midfield in a couple years.

Whilst I have nothing against buying young talent, I'd much rather buy someone who's the perfect player for our midfield now.

Of course. But Wenger will likely say "We have Arteta, Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, and don't forget Chamberlain as well." I bet that if he can find a good deal on a player like Rabiot, he will justify keeping our current midfield until Rabiot is ready. Just a hunch.

Quality player and if he was at another French league team he would be getting a lot more minutes and we'd probably have heard more about him.

He looks to be part of PSG's second string midfield which is Cabeye, Pastore and Rabiot and that would easily be the starting midfield for any other team in France. He looks to be able to get up and down the field pretty well, but DM could be his role in the future.

This signing would might not be one that would excite fans, but if he has the time to learn from Arteta and Flamini he could more quickly adjust to live in the Premier League.

Apart from not being the finished product, this guy is not the type we need. He certainly doesn't enjoy "sitting". His first instinct is to move forward as soon as he gives a pass. So he looks more like a CM or a box-to-box midfielder to me. We have enough of those (Ramsey, Diaby, Wilshere) but if we are looking at him or his type, then I'd rather we go for Pogba or Gundoghan. Take a look at Verratti's style. He is first and foremost defensive-minded. He loves to stay in front of the defense, break up opposition attacks and give a simple pass to the ball carriers.

Of course u would like to to for a 40ish million player instead of Rabiot. On the other hand, I like this as one of the ideas we might do, but once again, summer is a looooong loooooong time

Arsenal Quotes

The coach's role is to make the player understand everything that serves the interest of the game. To do this he must speak to the child within each player, to the adolescent he was and the adult he is now. Too often a coach tends only to speak to the adult, issuing commands for performance, for victory, for reflection, to the detriment of the child who is playing for pleasure, living in the present.
