Just heard on The Kick Off YouTube channel that JP Morgan is a big backer of this ESL. If that is the case maybe there has to be pessimism in government action beyond lip service, particularly any attempt to impose the 50+1 ownership model. Have to remember who funds the main political parties, incl. big banks and multinationals.

@El Duderino

Banks always get their due, but it'd be odd that an American bank would have that much influence here. Also, there's always optics, any politician that backs action against this and gets something out of it will be at the forefront of British politics.

As @Rex Banter put it, this could be Johnson's actual legacy, and not the brexit or COVID response.

They’re guaranteeing the debt right?

The fact Perez started mentioning Boris shows he’s rattled. Government interference is probably the last thing they expected but 21st Century Britain is a sh*thole and the PL is one of the few things we can cling to.

Losing it to the Americans would be a political disaster.

The players could come together and kill this by tomorrow afternoon. Let me set the scene. The entire Arsenal squad are sat down in the dressing room, all wearing Arsenal shirts, would help to have a few retro shirts of legends past. The captain speaks on behalf of the entire squad, saying that they've been let down and are taking the decision out of the hands of the owners and will themselves refuse to play in the proposed competition and that they expect the players of the rest of the 6 to follow suit. They'd be heroes in the eyes of the public and their ****ty performances would be forgotten. Easiest win ever

wonder who the two clubs are

Chelsea and City guaranteed. They’ve probably seen PSG might not join and that’d mean they could clean up in Europe with their owners and rival the Super League.

Also the Government talk seems to have rattled a lot of people. If we end up with a 50 + 1 system and a independent regulator say goodbye to the power they have right now.

The yank owned clubs are apparently desperate to breakaway altogether because of this relegation issue. Stan’s played himself here.

This super league thing must be 10 times more unpopular than the 2022 World Cup, I'm surprised there isn't a race to be first. PR god damned heaven

Basically Fiorentino is telling us that he is forming a league of 15 founders to save the world?

Seriously I had to listen to some snippets of Florentino Perez interview to make sure the earlier tweets were not parodies. That rambling, incoherent, insane interview should be a major cause for concern for those 12 renegade clubs. The dude is high on his own bullshit.
Ventajas de hablar español. When they asked how is this gonna include other teams, he literally said he doesn't know jajajajaja

Kroenke can just cash out if push comes shove, Kroenke sells. He's already made heaps out of his initial investment.

Could even afford to dilute some shares to appease fans or even to sell to minority stakeholders and come out ahead with mad cash. Depending on how this plays out, we get made one of the villians ESL fails and his stock loses value, which might force him to act somehow. Big pocketed people might look at it and think it's a solid investment once we go into post-covid.

A lot of wishful thinking, but maybe the stars allign and it makes good business sense to cash out. He will eventually.
