I'd be loyal too if I was paid 350k to do nothing.
There is no genuine loyalty either way these days. You’ll get it sometimes but it’s rare. Players find a place to live, get married have kids get settled and don’t want to move anywhere… Then when the **** hits the fan they say they were loyal. No, you just aren’t interested in going anywhere else because your life is here now, nobody will pay you as much and that’s fine. But don’t talk about the ****ing loyalty.

So incredibly unprofessional and disgusting from his agent to bring personal achievements and experiences from Mikel in a manipulating manner. Imagine trying to incite further turmoil at the club and turn the fans against our manager who is now the FOURTH one to drop him in 8 years.

Kia was right, this agent has failed his client and both the agent and Mesut show that they're unable to take responsibility for their decisions and actions.

Gonna be honest, with partey we can afford to have one passenger in the team and a completely washed Özil is still our most creative player. Can’t be for footballing reasons, shame how this has ended was the most exciting signing we’ve made and he lived up to the hype in his first few seasons

This is starting to get ugly

Not sure why people are over analysing every little thing when the club are clearly at fault for this whole situation. We offered Özil the contract, so we should fulfil that contract until his last day. Take the L and move on.

Embarrassing the way the club has handled this one and everything has gone public just like the Guendouzi situation.

So Özil isn't culpable for taking a mini-retirement after getting his big contract?

Now that It appears Özil won’t play again until January or frankly ever. How would you guys sum up his career here?

For me: The slow sad decline. The Man went from something to nothing.
I would give him a 5.8 out of 10. Just above average.

He’s training, isn’t he? So technically it’s not his fault if he’s not getting selected.

What’s even more embarrassing than the club are the fans that are defending this sh*tshow. We’ve put ourselves in a similar situation with Willian and Cedric too by handing them long deals. I think we’re in serious trouble.

The club aren't clearly at fault though are they. The club and manager have both explicitly said Özil was dropped for footballing reasons. That's taking things at face value and not overanalysing. If it was any other player in the squad fans would have accepted the managers reason.

The people overanalysing things and not taking things at face value are the ones who can't bring themselves to accept that Mesut is very likely to blame for the situation that he finds himself in.

Of course the club are obligated to pay him until his contract expires.
They're in no way obligated to play him though, if the manager doesn't wish to.

What do you mean when you say the club should fulfil the contract? Should we play him regularly? Or should we keep him in the squad?

The coach can not drop more deserving players just so Özil can start. What has he done to merit a starting spot?

Training regularly doesn't equate to him being the best player to start.
The club rewarded him for his purple patch by giving him a mega contract but he paid us back by stinking up the place.
Two assist per season? There are many championship players that can do better than that.

I really like Arsenal. But you, do you like Arsenal? Or just Arsenal with Trophies?
