This was a crazy response to the mediocre Porto performance, where the young guys seemed to be nervous on the occasion. So dominant, especially in the first half.

It was the perfect comeback, considering that Newcastle is at least a similar level team as Porto. Even if Arsenal performs half as well against Porto, Arsenal should go through to the next round.

The Chelsea match was also post-poned, so Arsenal can play the best players longer, and also if the game goes to over-time, it helps. Post-poning is bad for later in the season, but Arsenal also looks like getting players back from injuries so it's possible to rotate more.

They were clearly briefed not to concede, even if that meant not scoring, because of the fact it's over two legs. Wasn't it our first match in however long without a shot on target or something (can't remember the stat)? I understand why Mikel went for this game plan (so we could smash them at home) and of course he'd never do that in the prem.

Arsenal Quotes

Right from his very first match, when Patrick Vieira was as yet unknown to the English public, he showed just how talented he was. No one disputed his ability, and he gave me the credibility and the hold over the club that I needed to take it in the direction I wanted. He and Emmanuel Petit became a duo that would remain forever etched in the memories of Arsenal fans.
