its a joke that he is worth anything higher than 2 million. the boy has only being playing football at the top level for 2 minutes. how can he be worth double or even treble the fee of players with more playing time?

Well we wasted a hell of a lot on Wiltord who was pretty old when we got him. 8 mill for someone this young and highly rated wouldn't be bad buisness.

I don't understand this thing about Ramos being a long term prospect. Do you people literally think that players like him would stay here for more than 4 years. ? Forget Ramos how many people on this forum think that Reyes will stay with Arsenal for more than 4 years. ?

Ramos may have the talent but i'd rather buy Seitaridis from porto for 5 to 6m . 8)

These release clauses don't mean a great deal. Didn't Reyes have a ridiculous release clause, more than 30 million I think, and yet we still got him for 10 million.

True. All the release clause does is protect them in the event of a bid less than it. As soon as the bid goes over that then they have to sell, but everyone knows they are getting well over the odds for the player.

Its a case of "thats a figure too good to turn down". But in reality, most prices can be negotiated under that figure, which is still seen as a good deal for both parties.

I dont think we will every trully know how much we paid for Reyes. Some say £10 mill which seems pretty good, others say £15 mill which is a bit of a rip off, and some say £20 mill over a number of years and winning the champs league. Who knows which one it is :?

Wasn't it something like 10mill straight away and then it could go up to £17.5mill depending on clauses and Arsenal success

Yep, think it was a pretty open deal. These details were sketchily released at the time of the deal, that £10m was payed, and it could raise to £17m on 'extras'.

honestly people, the kid is good....but he is 18 and would struggle defending against more physical opponents in the premiership.

I think for the money they are asking for , this rumor is dead...

Sergio Ramos was brilliant for Sevilla last night. He has so much composure, technical ability and confidence for someone so young. Sergio Ramos is easily one of the best young defenders in Europe. He's an outstanding talent.

And according to AS journalist Manuel Esteban Manolete, Gunners boss Wenger has contacted Ramos' representatives to gauge his interest in a possible move to north London.

"Wenger has called Rene Ramos, the agent and brother of Sergio Ramos," he told radio show La Goleada.

I want to believe but can hardly see why MAdrid would let him go or why he would want to leave. Sounds like he's angling for a pay rise. He's a suped up version of Koz. Always liked Ramos from his Sevilla days. A gladiator on the biggest stage of them all.

Bloody hell Toast, finding a thread from 2005 and bumping it! Effort lad

Anyway I'd like him, he's not really very solid, I'd rate Kos higher but he's a million miles ahead of Per.

League is very weak
I can see all parties in Madrid being interested if the money was outrageous for all involved, but that sort of scenario rules us out.

Guessing a 35-40M fee with 200k a week plus etc.

Ramos? never going to happen, he's not leaving Madrid.

But hopefully this is a smokescreen for us to getting Varane.

Funny how he was on about a new deal a few weeks ago, another agent using Arsenal to get a pay rise.

Nothing to see here.

Can't see it happening but he's a world class defender and can play anywhere along the back line too. Has been unbelievable since making the transition from right back to centre back.
