I thought we were gonna promote Francis Cagigao as our head coach with Monchi/Overmars/what ever coming in to be Technical director?
Don't know about him, but we sure need someone like Sven who can identify transfer targets.

I think it has always depended on who Arsenal hired as a technical director. Overmars would need to rely on a Cagigao or whoever was hired to replace Sven. If Monchi had taken the job, a head of recruitment would have rather been redundant because Monchi is accustomed to overseeing the scouting network himself. So I assume they're waiting to see who they come up with as technical director before deciding what to do about the recruitment post.

If they hire a head of recruitment, it will presumably be someone who works well with the scouting network and relies on their expertise. I think that's where Mislintat and Sanllehi diverged in their vision. Sven is kind of a lone wolf and prefers to rely quite heavily on analytics (like StatDNA), barely having contact with the club's scouts. I don't suppose Sanllehi shuns analytics, but he apparently prefers recruiting that relies more on the scouting network. So it will be interesting to see who they come up with.

Now this is just completely wrong. Don't know how you've come to this conclusion - maybe it was the international reporting on him, focusing on his bust up with Tuchel and then painting him as some against the flow hippie.

Mislintat is well known for using stats and data, but he's not using StatDNA, he's got his own company: Matchmetrics. But he's also very much relying on in person scouting by himself and a scouting network. "With the Lucas Torreira transfer, [...] data played a big role. Mislintat had been looking for a player of similar profile to Kanté and found the Sampdoria man. 19-year old Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient was found while scouting in person."

"With Sanllehi and Mislintat two different cultures clashed: The Spaniard is a man of agents and networks, the German, albeit having a vast network, relies on scouting and analytics."

We should search for a Sanllehi replacement before doing anything else. What a fraud, he has messed up so much since Gazidis left.

Think this one is on the board - once again. Instead of bringing in a proper CEO as straight successor to Gazidis, who'd clearly be one guy in charge of the club as a whole business, they split the CEO job into two quasi jobs who are seemingly neither fish nor flesh. Because as the football quasi CEO, who doesn't run the business/financial side of things, Sanllehi basically is our Director of Football already...the club muddled the waters again by simply promoting Raul after Ivan left. So now with Sanllehi in such a powerful position, it's kind of clear why guys like Monchi and Overmars, themselves already DoFs and top dogs at their clubs, might not be too open to work under this half CEO/half DoF Raul, 'cause it's sort of like a demotion. The club has gotten itself into a situation where what they'd ideally need is a Mislintat kind of guy: Someone for whom this job would be a step up but who has clearly shown he's got the chops to pull off the job.

Think with that weird Sanllehi promotion/position, Arsenal might have gotten themselves into a similar situation as in Munich: Bayern struggle to find a competent DoF, because everyone competent enough wants a free hand to a certain degree, and with Hoeness as club president and Rummenigge as Board Chairman there's too much interference and people like Eberl and Lahm have turned them down.

So I think either they should bring in a proper CEO and clearly define Sanllehi's job as Director of Football again, basically doing the job Monchi and Edu have been approached for, and then get in a Technical Director/Head of Recruitment/Squadplanner as his assistant, or the club promotes Sanllehi again to proper CEO and then gets in a new DoF and new Technical Director/squadplanner - althouth with that second option I'd be highly wary of Sanllehi having the economic chops to lead a multi billion businness.

Huss Fahmy, the director of football operations, and head of football Raul Sanllehi will continue to lead the negotiations and pursuit of transfer targets in the absence of a technical director.

Don’t like the sound of that at all. Who’s our head of scouting right now?

Is it still Steve Rowley?

Francis Cagigao is the International Head of Recruitment. What's wrong with Fahmy and Sanllehi negotiating for players? That's what they specialise in.

Fair, think I misunderstood that and made it out as Raul would be scouting the targets himself

Seen a few links to Luis Campos, that sounds like a good idea. Was technical director at Monaco when they won the league and absolutely nailed recruitment and then moved onto Lille who are currently having a very impressive season.

Or we could just get Sven back :(

Can see the club now going the same poverty muddy way with this as when replacing Gazidis. Fahmy + Morrow with new titles sharing the job, muddling competences even more.

What as mess already. Who is doing to negotiations? Is it Raul? Something is clearly wrong since the position as already been rejected by Edu, Overmars, and Monchi.. Should really have given it to Sven, would have been ideal in my view. But now that bridge is burned, I'm afraid.

I’m quite chill to an extent about it, wholesale cultural change isn’t going to be made with one appointment.

Emery needs someone he’s comfortable with to give his reign the best possible chance to succeed which is my only criteria.
