Emery isn't good enough imo. We need to bring Wenger back.
To be quite honest, on appointing Emery last season, I was actually quite surprised we didn't end up appointing Mikel Arteta, as Pep's assistant he may have been quite good, would have learnt a thing or 2 off him aswell.
That's not true because otherwise he wouldn't be offered 2+1 contract if the procject was longterm. The goal was to get back in the CL in his first season and he failed, quite miserably tbh.
You can't expect him to implement youth from the get go (he still did it with Guendouzi and AMN) if the expectations are geared towards short term success.
I expect him to know that the resources given to him are limited and the talent we have right now is not enough. Also that the best players in the world see us as a retirement home, so the talent pool we can draw from in the transfer market is limited. Our youngsters breaking through and becoming key players is not optional for him, it's a necessity.
On paper we have a talented squad, the likes of Özil, Mikhi, Laca, Auba, Kos, Leno, Bellerin are all quality players, in theory (as in they've proven in the past they are more than capable). Why it doesn't click is another issue and probably a mixture of different factors starting from the fact some are regressing/past their prime to structural issues (no wide options, injuries etc) and so on...
Lets not kid ourselves, every manager would love working with a rooster that has similar profiles as mentioned above, how they eventually function on the field is another matter.
Saying we should integrate academy players is not enough, it's just fancy words with no substance. You actually need young players that are talented enough to warrant a place in the first team. Usually top clubs get one, maybe two in a generation, if any at all. How do you expect us to rebuild through academy when you know our youth setup was in shambles until couple of season ago when we restructured the whole system. We will reap the benefits in the coming years and if we're lucky we'll maybe get one player on which we could actually build on. Setting up your whole future by betting on youngters breaking through is just silly and unrealistic IMO.
On paper we do not have a talented squad.
Auba, Laca are great finisher, but they are not talented on the ball. Mkhi is not a dribbler. And Özil can only make amazing pass in the final third without contributing much in the buildup.
These are what I called talented players
We didn’t have enough quality players to make the top 4 last season.
Didn't expect a full squad of youth, but I felt like players like Nketiah, Willock, etc could see some more minutes. On the other hand AMN was shoehorned because of injuries. Never mind, everything failed in the end.
Unlike Arsène Wenger this is a manager who wants to use squad rotation, something that bit us towards the end of last season with questionable judgment in hindsight, but perhaps would not be such a problem once the squad has transitioned to fit this new manager.
First half of 2019/20 season could be critical, but then again we don't have a board like with some other clubs, where they have no problem losing a lot of money with early severance. Truth is at this point I just don't know with Unai Emery, it is on a bit of a knife-edge. I believe we had good enough players to easily make Top 4 last season, especially with Chelsea flailing (and an additional opening with Tottenham collapsing at the end).
Arsène Wenger has used squad rotation where necessary and where he has had a squad with enough depth to do so. It mayn't seem that way since he tries to give the first team as much of an opportunity to gel and prefers rotating entire teams. Wenger rightfully puts a lot of esteem in player relationships. Its important that players know each other like the back of their hands for his complex and highly effective tactics to work.
He was one of the worst tacticians out there, simply because he didn’t keep up with the modern tactical style.
Any world class tactictian will instruct their players to be at the exact position at the exact moment, instruct them the right movement to make, creating outnumbering situations and prevent being outnumbered.
Wenger trusted the chemistry of his player, he just set a formation, an overall philosophy, and let his player decide the rest.
You and DT were kicking him in the guts long before he fell out of the top 4.
Lampard appointed as Chelsea manager. Great to see a top oligarch spending side taking a chance on an untried manager.
1 year in the championship is probably less experience than being assistant to the guy who wins the premier league 2 years running.
Shame the board were unwilling to take a punt on iPad man last year. The few of us on here who wanted him were well in the minority though.
If Wenger was one of the worst tacticians. How bad must you be not to stay in the top 4 for 20 years, win 7 FA Cups, reach a CL final, and manage a season that never loses a game.
All your post is based on conjecture about Wenger being tactically inept. But what is an absolute fact is that only time Wenger dropped out of the top 4 in his whole tenure is when he and the players were working under extreme adverse conditions, overhead planes, stadium boycotts, social media rants, memes and protests.
i think the fan thing is over rated....the vocal minority of fringe incels wasnt as influential. The refereeing or the injuries were probably more influential.
We fell out of top 4 by a point, only when we could afford to do so, and when top 4, FA cups or finishing above Sp**s seemed to have lost its charm for everyone associated with Arsenal. We had either to go to the next level or figure out a new way.
To be honest, there wasnt much else for Wenger to look forward to. Title runs / World beating squads werent going to be possible in a world where Dembele went for 170 M and Stan/Josh had taken full ownership.
What a naive and idiotic assumption to make.
All his posts are based on two facts: 1. his lack of knowledge on footballing tactics, and 2. his derived and shallow conclusions.
Yeah Wenger's tactical failings were proven concretely by the incredible amount of improvement we saw last season with a strict modern tactician in charge.
One of the worst tacticians out there? Why are you disrespecting wenger like this? The man is an arsenal legend, have some respect.. emery plays 5 at the back against relegation fodder at home.. is that a tactician to you?
Funny how i had this guy on ignore after his first 10 Posts or so. I just read how you guys talk about a certain poster and i immediatly knew who it was.
