Villa would be, if he performs, a bandaid to your current troubles - same as Arshavin was a few years back. He could probably bang in a fair amount of goals this season and maybe next season, but then what? You're stuck with a 32-33 year old on huge wages with no resale value.

We need a bandaid more than a new project though. Arshavin helped us to reach fourth spot, If Villa could do that as well, I'm all for it. Not at all cost obviously (I for one wouldn't pay 15m for him) but it's not like we can sit back and look at the future. We already have plenty of potential, but at the moment we need points.
